Interior Health is hiring a casual Mental Health Care Aide to join the team at the Cariboo Memorial Hospital with the Gateway Program in Williams Lake, BC. We are seeking applicants with experience/knowledge working with MHSU and who are available for short call.
Gateway is a 5-bed inpatient substance use crisis program that offers short stay for people in emotional or psychiatric distress and/or are in need of sub-acute withdrawal management. Located on the 3rd floor of Cariboo Memorial Hospital, this program provides a level of service mid-way between out-patient therapy and in-patient hospitalization and works towards facilitating a swift return to community living arrangements.
The Mental Health Care Aide works under the functional direction of a Registered Nurse, Registered Psychiatric Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse and in cooperation with interdisciplinary team members to assist in the delivery of client care. Following established care plans provides personal care; bathes, grooms, dresses, assists with meals and oral hygiene and provides assistance in the delivery of nursing care; vital signs, documents on patient’s chart and responds to call bells/alarms.
This position also observes and monitors clients’ progress, symptoms and behavioural changes and reports significant observations, assists with the provision of activation and socialization services for mental health patients and utilizes established lifting /safety techniques and uses appropriate equipment to assist patients with positioning, activation and transportation. The Mental Health Care Aide understands the importance of and maintains a clean and safe environment for clients and staff. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Shifts of work are of a casual nature and may be scheduled days or nights.

Graduation from a recognized Nursing Assistant Program or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
**Experience/knowledge working with MHSU clients is an asset.
