Position Summary

Interior Health’s Queen Victoria Hospital (QVH) invites applications for the role of Medical Device Reprocessing Technician/Perioperative Aide. QVH is looking for a knowledgeable Medical Device Reprocessing Technician/Perioperative Aide with experience assisting the surgical team with the preparation of the Operating Room (OR) theaters and the positioning and preparation of the surgical patients and related supplies/equipment.

The Queen Victoria Hospital is a Community Hospital located in Revelstoke and offers services including acute care, laboratory, obstetrics, and emergency. Two Operating Rooms support general surgery, ob/gyne surgery, and dental surgery. Ambulatory Care services consist of colonoscopy, endoscopy, gastroscopy, and oncology.

As a member of the QVH Medical Device Reprocessing Team, you will perform a series of detailed technical duties related to the decontamination, sterilization, reassembly, function testing and distribution of medical and/or surgical supplies and instruments for various areas of the hospital; restock supplies in theatres and storage areas; and transport patients, specimens, equipment and supplies within the perioperative area. Reporting to Manger, Clinical Operations, you will draw upon your ability to provide input to the surgical team regarding patient observations and interactions and use, care and location of perioperative equipment and supplies.

Shifts will follow a Monday to Friday schedule (07:00 to 15:00 hours). Casual employment means work requirements can vary between Zero and 37.5 hours per week. Casual employees will receive 12.6% of their straight time pay, exclusive of all premiums, in lieu of scheduled vacations and statutory holidays. Upon completion of 180 hours, you have the option of purchasing medical, dental and extended health benefit plans.

Education, Training and Experience:
Grade 12, successful completion of Sterile Processing Course, plus one year’s recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Skills and Abilities:
• Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
• Mathematical aptitude.
• Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
• Ability to organize work.
• Ability to operate related equipment.
• Knowledge of surgical and medical terminology.
