Position Summary

We are actively seeking new Casual Medical Device Reprocessing Technicians/Perioperative Aides to join our team at Queen Victoria Hospital in Revelstoke.

Medical Device Reprocessing Technicians/Perioperative Aides assist the surgical team with the preparation of the Operating Room (OR) theaters and the positioning and preparation of the surgical patients and related supplies/equipment. Other duties relate to transporting patients, specimens, equipment and supplies within the perioperative area; restocking supplies in theatres and storage areas; and providing input to the surgical team regarding patient observations and interactions.

This position also performs a series of detailed technical duties related to the decontamination, sterilization, reassembly, function testing and distribution of medical and/or surgical supplies and instruments for various areas of the hospital; and performs related clerical duties and record keeping. Shifts will be scheduled 07:00 to 15:00 Monday to Friday.

We are looking for candidates who are knowledgeable in the use, care and location of perioperative equipment and supplies.

Once hired into a casual position, employees become eligible to apply internal on relief and permanent positions as they become vacant. Casual employees will receive 12.6% of their straight time pay, exclusive of all premiums, in lieu of scheduled vacations and statutory holidays. Upon completion of 180 hours, there is the option of purchasing medical, dental and extended health benefit plans.

Grade 12, successful completion of Sterile Processing Course, plus one year’s recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Skills and Abilities:
 Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
 Mathematical aptitude.
 Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
 Ability to organize work.
 Ability to operate related equipment.
 Knowledge of surgical and medical terminology.
