A Medical Device Reprocessing Technician/Perioperative Aide assists the surgical team with the preparation of the Operating Room (OR) theaters and the positioning and preparation of the surgical patients and related supplies/equipment.
A Medical Device Reprocessing Technician/Perioperative Aide performs a series of detailed technical duties related to the decontamination, sterilization, reassembly, function testing and distribution of medical and/or surgical supplies and instruments for various areas of the hospital; and performs related clerical duties and record keeping. Key skills are knowledge in the use and care of perioperative equipment and supplies.
In this position, the Medical Device Reprocessing Technician/Perioperative Aide supports the transporting of patients, specimens, equipment and supplies within the perioperative area. Key ability required is patient observation in order to provide input to the surgical team.
Penticton Regional Hospital has four operating room theatres and surgical services include orthopaedics, urology, ENT, obstetrics/gynecology, and general surgery.
This is a casual opportunity. Casual employment provides relief in positions occupied by regular full time and regular part time employees. This includes short-notice, on-call shifts to covering in a specific position. Casual employees are called in to work in the order of their seniority and accumulate seniority on the basis of the number of hours worked. Interior Health requires all employees that work Casual to work a minimum of 225 hours over a twelve (12) month period.
Once hired into a casual position, employees become eligible to apply internal on regular positions as they become vacant. Casual employees will receive 12.6% of their straight time pay, exclusive of all premiums, in lieu of scheduled vacations and statutory holidays. Upon completion of 180 hours, there is the option of purchasing medical, dental and extended health benefit plans.

Education, Training and Experience:
• Grade 12.
• Successful completion of Sterile Processing Course, plus one year’s recent related experience.
Skills and Abilities:
• Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
• Mathematical aptitude.
• Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
• Ability to organize work.
• Ability to operate related equipment.
• Knowledge of surgical and medical terminology
