Interior Health’s Kootenay Lake Hospital (KLH) invites applications for the role of Ophthalmic Technician II. KLH is looking for a knowledgeable Ophthalmic Technician to provide patient testing prior to the Ophthalmologists seeing the patient.
As member of the KLH Ophthalmology Team, you will work the Ophthalmologists in performing complex diagnostic ophthalmic procedures and assessments in imaging, visual field and other ophthalmic tests. Tests and procedures include Goldman field tests, automated perimetry, tonometry, tests for glaucoma, intraocular pressure monitoring, orthoptic assessments, and macular function studies, and complex ophthalmic tests and imaging procedures such as fluorescein angiograms and optical coherence tomography (OCT). In this positon the Ophthalmic Technician analyzes, records, and reports relevant data for interpretation by the physicians and/or other medical staff.
Reporting to the Manager, Clinical Operations, the Ophthalmic Technician reviews requisitions, reviews and documents patient’s history, and verifies appropriateness of visual field tests and photographs to be taken in accordance with physician’s diagnosis, instruction and/or established procedures. Identifies concerns to the physician regarding requisition discrepancies, patient’s condition, or other observations; implements requisition changes as directed.
Casual employment means work requirements can vary between Zero and 37.5 hours per week. Casual employees receive 12.6% of their straight time pay, exclusive of all premiums, in lieu of scheduled vacations and statutory holidays. Upon completion of 180 hours, there is option of purchasing medical, dental and extended health benefit plans. Days of works when scheduled will be Wednesdays and Thursdays 08:00 to 16:00 hours. A Casual employee is needed to help with vacation coverage and other coverage as required.

Education, Training and Experience:
Graduation from a recognized program in ophthalmic technology, plus two years recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
