This position assists the surgical team with the preparation of the Operating Room (OR) theaters and the positioning and preparation of the surgical patients and related supplies/equipment. We are seeking a candidate who is knowledgeable in the use and care of perioperative equipment and supplies.
This position performs a series of detailed technical duties related to the decontamination, sterilization, reassembly, function testing and distribution of medical and/or surgical supplies and instruments for various areas of the hospital; and performs related clerical duties and record keeping.
The position also supports the transporting of patients, specimens, equipment and supplies within the perioperative area. This individual provides input to the surgical team regarding patient observations and interactions.
Kootenay Lake Hospital’s Surgical Services Department consists of two OR theaters running Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays; sometimes on Mondays. In the role, the Medical Device Reprocessing Technician/Perioperative Aide works rotating days where shifts are 07:00 to 15:00, 07:30 to 15:30 or 08:30 to 16:30 hours.
Casual employment means work requirements can vary between Zero and 37.5 hours per week. Casual employees will receive 12.6% of their straight time pay, exclusive of all premiums, in lieu of scheduled vacations and statutory holidays. Upon completion of 180 hours, you have the option of purchasing medical, dental and extended health benefit plans. Relocation Allowance package available to eligible candidates.

Education, Training and Experience:
• Grade 12, successful completion of Sterile Processing Course, plus one year’s recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

• Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
