Full time Medical Laboratory Assistant position available at the Kootenay Lake Hospital in Nelson.
The Laboratory Assistant performs a variety of duties within the Laboratory such as taking blood samples from patients, preparing blood and other specimens for analysis, performing routine lab tests, distributing specimens to Laboratory departments and outside Laboratories, operating related equipment, entering data into the Laboratory Information System (LIS) and performing related clerical duties. They shall also perform ECG testing as required.
This is a temporary position until the return of the incumbent. Days of work are Mondays to Fridays and consist of Days and Evening shifts. This position may require travel to nearby facilities and laboratories.
The Kootenay Lake Hospital is a Level 1 Community Hospital in the Kootenay Boundary health service area. Located in Nelson, south B.C., the hospital offers services including laboratory, surgical, inpatient and emergency.
• Grade 12
• Successful completion of a recognized Laboratory Assistant training program
• One year's recent, related experience
• Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License.
• Ability to type 25 WPM *please upload a copy of an invigilated typing test dated within the last 24mths. Please note we do not accept self-administered online tests*
