Position Summary

Kootenay Lake Hospital is looking for a reliable and motivated Laboratory Assistant to join the team in the beautiful community of Nelson, BC!

The Kootenay Lake Hospital is a Level 1 Community Hospital in the Kootenay Boundary health service area. Located in Nelson, south B.C., the hospital offers services including laboratory, surgical, inpatient and emergency.

The Laboratory Assistant performs a variety of duties within the Laboratory such as taking blood samples from patients, preparing blood and other specimens for analysis, performing routine lab tests, distributing specimens to Laboratory departments and outside Laboratories, operating related equipment, entering data into the Laboratory Information System (LIS) and performing related clerical duties. They shall also perform ECG testing as required.

This is a casual position. Casual means hours are not guaranteed and may vary each week. Shifts may be called out at short notice.

Qualifications

Grade 12
Successful completion of a recognized Laboratory Assistant training program
One year's recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License.
Ability to type 25 WPM *please upload a copy of an invigilated typing test dated within the last 24mths. Please note we do not accept self-administered online tests*
