Position Summary

A casual opportunity exists for a Mental Health & Substance Use Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric to join the warm and caring team with the Mobile Supervised Consumption Site in Kelowna. We are seeking applicants with extensive experience and understanding of supervised consumption services, knowledge of harm reduction principals and ability to work with clients with complex mental health and substance use disorders. Previous experience with the marginalized, homeless population would be an asset.

The Registered Nurse functions as a member of the larger Community Integrated Health Services (CIHS) or Tertiary Mental Health Services care team and as a member of a designated multi-disciplinary team whose purpose is to ensure that persons with serious severe and persistent mental health problems, and/or problematic substance use and/or development disability issues who may or may not be in crisis have access to timely, responsive, evidence based treatment and clinical supports across the continuum of available services.

Working in the assigned clinical area(s) (such as Adult Short Term Assessment and Treatment (ASTAT), Adult Community Support Services (ACSS), Urgent Response, Elderly Services, Alcohol & Drug, Developmental Disability Mental Health Services (DDMHS), etc.) the Registered Nurse provides assessment, treatment, case management, community support, and as required, urgent response to clients who may also have serious functional impairment in the domains of physical health and personal, family, financial, occupational, and social life. The Registered Nurse functions as a primary clinician utilizing a variety of specialized treatment modalities/therapies for individuals, groups of clients and/or their families.

Shifts of work are days and evenings and shift times are 12 hours duration from 12:00 to 00:00 hours.

Qualifications

Graduation from an approved school of nursing.

Two years’ recent related MHSU experience in the assigned clinical area(s) (such as Adult Short Term Assessment and Treatment (ASTAT), Adult Community Support Services (ACSS), Urgent Response, Elderly Services, Alcohol & Drug, Developmental Disability Mental Health Services (DDMHS), etc.) or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Current practicing registration with the College of Registered Nurses of British Columbia (CRNBC) or the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of British Columbia (CRPNBC).

Current valid B.C. driver’s license.

** Successful applicant must be willing to learn how to operate a Class 5 recreation vehicle.
