Interior Health’s Kelowna General Hospital (KGH) invites applications for the role of Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Ophthalmology - Surgical. KGH is looking for knowledgeable LPNs with advanced preparation in the clinical specialty perioperative nursing and one year recent, related clinical experience. KGH is a tertiary hospital is the region’s main referral centre offering a full range of services with approximately 400 beds and over 84,000 ED visits yearly. Ophthalmology services include cataract surgery, glaucoma, macular degeneration, strabismus repair, and vitrectomy. As member of the KGH surgical services’ team, you will coordinate and oversee the overall care of the client and set priorities, provide clinical expertise and leadership for the plan of care, plan and implement health care treatments and interventions, and assign and delegate tasks as appropriate to other members of the healthcare team. Reporting to Manger, Clinical Operations Operating Room, you will draw upon your ability to provide practical nursing services in an operating room environment as a member of an integrated surgical team performing varied surgical interventions. Days of work when shifts may be offered will fall within a Monday to Friday schedule. Casual employment means work requirements can vary between Zero and 37.5 hours per week. Casual employees receive 12.6% of their straight time pay, exclusive of all premiums, in lieu of scheduled vacations and statutory holidays. Upon completion of 180 hours, there is option of purchasing medical, dental and extended health benefit plans. Qualifications |
Education, Training and Experience: • Graduation from a recognized program for Practical Nurses with the full range of current licensed practical nursing competencies, and graduation from an accredited O.R. program for Licensed Practical Nurses plus one (1) year recent related experience working as a Licensed Practical Nurse in acute care, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. • Current full practicing licensure with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). • Current CPR certification required. Skills and Abilities: • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. • Ability to deal with others effectively. • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position. • Ability to organize work. • Ability to operate related equipment.
