Position Summary

If you are a mental health nurse experienced in crisis intervention, mental health and substance use, consultation and care planning, bring your solid decision making skills and apply today to join the In-Reach team at Kelowna General Hospital.

In Reach provides mental health assessment and support in the Emergency Department and throughout the Kelowna General Hospital to patients in non-mental health specific departments.

The Emergency Response MH Nurse provides consultation or assessment service to the Emergency Department or the Acute/Inpatient Mental Health service at the request of the Emergency Room physician, the general practitioner or the Emergency triage nurse. Initiates treatment as ordered by the attending physician and liaises with community services and agencies as indicated. Provides follow-up to all patients discharged from the Psychiatric Unit.

We are currently seeking an enthusiastic RN or RPN who is resourceful and passionate about interdepartmental collaboration to facilitate client stabilization and connection to appropriate community resources. If you have strong assessment skills and can thrive in a fast paced environment with competing priorities along with a strong clinical foundation and are confident in your decision making skills this is the job for you.

Casual shifts will be scheduled on an as-needed basis with day/evening shifts 08:00 to 12:45 and 11:00 to 23:00.

• Graduation from an approved School of Nursing.
• Current practicing registration with the British Columbia College of Nursing Professionals (BCCNP).
• Formal education/training in acute mental health nursing
• Minimum of one year recent related experience in a multidisciplinary acute psychiatry setting including experience in Emergency/Crisis Intervention and rapid assessment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
