Position Summary

Interior Health’s Elk Valley Hospital (EVH) invites applications for the role of Operating Room Inventory Control Liaison/Medical Device Reprocessing (MDR) Technician. EVH is looking for knowledgeable Operating Room Inventory Control Liaison/ MDR Technician with post-secondary education in cleaning, decontaminating, assembling, wrapping, sterilizing and distributing instruments and equipment related to the Operating Room.

EVH is a 20-bed Level 1 Community Hospital located in Fernie, BC and offers services including inpatient, obstetrics, and emergency. There is one operating room suite where surgical procedures include gynecology/OBS, C-Section, D & C, excision of ganglion, vasectomies, surface cancer excision, hernia repair and upper and lower GI scoping. Hours of operation are weekdays Monday to Thursday with on call to support C-Section and Trauma coverage.

As member of the EVH Operating Room team, you will with Nursing, MDR and Logistics and be responsible for completing purchase orders for minor and major equipment, supplies and services within the Operating Room; ensuring stock levels are maintained and inventory issues are reported to supervisor; picking up equipment, instrument sets and filling requests for the Operating Room; and contacting vendor representatives for inventory. Reporting to Manger, Clinical Operations, you will draw upon established procedures and assist Operating Room Nurses in preparing case carts with required supplies and equipment from the Operating Room inventory for surgical procedures.

Casual employment means work requirements can vary between Zero and 37.5 hours per week. Casual employees receive 12.6% of their straight time pay, exclusive of all premiums, in lieu of scheduled vacations and statutory holidays. Upon completion of 180 hours, there is option of purchasing medical, dental and extended health benefit plans. A Casual position may lead into regular employment opportunities as once hired, employees are eligible to apply for internal postings including permanent positions.

Qualifications

Education, Training and Experience:
Grade 12, successful completion of the Sterile Supply Processing Course, one year’s recent related experience.

Skills and Abilities:
 Ability to organize work.
 Ability to operate related equipment.
 Ability to communicate and deal with other effectively, both verbally and in writing.
 Knowledge of surgical and medical terminology.
 Mathematical aptitude.
 Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
