Interior Health’s East Kootenay Regional Hospital (EKRH) invites applications for the role of Respiratory Therapist (RT). EKRH is looking Respiratory Therapists knowledgeable in practices in accordance with the standards of professional practice as outlined by the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists (CSRT) as well as within a client and family centered care model.
EKRH, located in Cranbrook, BC, is a 77 bed regional referral centre, serving a catchment area of approximately 82,000 people in the East Kootenays. The 4-floor facility offers 24/7 emergency services with 16 beds, a brand new state of the art 6-bed ICU, a full range of medical and surgical services including Internal Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology, General Surgery, Orthopedics, Ophthalmology, ENT, Pathology, Psychiatry and Radiology and Urology.
As member of the EKRH Respiratory Therapy team, you will join a multi-disciplinary setting and provide acute care clinical respiratory therapy support that may include but is not limited to: airway management; conduct tests to measure lung function; training in the use of special breathing equipment and/or techniques for administering prescription medication or oxygen; training to manage asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) or to quit smoking; responding to cardiopulmonary resuscitations (code blue) and traumas; management of life support in Intensive Care Units (Adult and Neonatal).
EKRH’s High Acuity Response Team (H.A.R.T.) Program provides interfacility transportation for patients requiring advanced life support or critical care management to or from tertiary hospitals. The Respiratory Therapy team is an intrical part to this health care service. EKRH’s Respiratory Therapists provide coverage from 06:00 to 23:00 hours and on-call services 24 hours per day, 7 day a week.
Casual employment means work requirements can vary between Zero and 37.5 hours per week. Shifts when available will fall within a Days (07:00 to 17:30, 07:00 to 19:15) or Nights (19:00 to 07:15) schedule. This position requires the successful candidate to take part in the H.A.R.T. Program; therefore on-call is required as well as residing within 20 minutes of the hospital’s location to respond to call back time. Casual employees receive 12.6% of their straight time pay, exclusive of all premiums, in lieu of scheduled vacations and statutory holidays. Upon completion of 180 hours, there is option of purchasing medical, dental and extended health benefit plans.

Education, Training and Experience:
• Graduation from a recognized Respiratory Therapy program.
• Current certification with the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists (CSRT) and eligible for registration with the British Columbia Society of Respiratory Therapists (BCSRT) and CSRT.
• Current valid BC Driver’s License.
• One to 2 years of recent acute care experience.
