Position Summary |
Interior Health’s East Kootenay Regional Hospital (EKRH) invites applications for the role of Medical Device Reprocessing (MDR) Technician. EKRH is looking to hire a MDRT who are knowledgeable in principles of infection control, decontamination, sterilization, and aseptic techniques and with experience in cleaning, sorting, assembling and picking complex types of instrument sets, picking surgical cases and many other duties associated with clerical and record keeping. EKRH is a 77-bed regional referral centre serving over 80,000 people. This hospital offers 24/7 emergency services, a brand new state-of-the-art six bed ICU, a new MRI space along with our four Operating Theatres, Medical Device Reprocessing Department and a separate expanded Ambulatory Care and Surgical Daycare Centre. As member of the EVH Operating Room team, you will perform a series of detailed technical duties related to the decontamination, sterilization, reassembly, function testing and distribution of medical and/or surgical supplies and instruments for various areas of the hospital; and perform related clerical duties and record keeping. Reporting to Manger, Clinical Operations Operating Room, you will draw upon your ability to perform inventory counts, requisition supplies and equipment, report and record shortages, problems and complaints related to instruments, supplies and equipment, etc., and maintain records on instruments, supplies and equipment processed and requisitioned in accordance with established procedures. This is a casual opportunity. Casual employment provides relief in positions occupied by regular full time and regular part time employees. This includes short-notice, on-call shifts to covering in a specific position. Casual employees are called in to work in the order of their seniority and accumulate seniority on the basis of the number of hours worked. Interior Health requires all employees that work Casual to work a minimum of 225 hours over a twelve (12) month period. Once hired into a casual position, employees become eligible to apply internal on regular positions as they become vacant. Casual employees will receive 12.6% of their straight time pay, exclusive of all premiums, in lieu of scheduled vacations and statutory holidays. Upon completion of 180 hours, there is the option of purchasing medical, dental and extended health benefit plans. Qualifications |
Education, Training and Experience: Grade 12, successful completion of a recognized Sterile Supply Processing course, plus one year’s recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Skills and Abilities: • Knowledge of surgical and medical terminology. • Mathematical aptitude. • Ability to communicate and deal effectively with others. • Ability to operate related equipment. • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position. • Ability to organize work.
