Position Summary

Interior Health is hiring a permanent full-time Coordinator | Medical Staff Occupational Health, Safety and Wellness who is passionate about making a difference in health care.

Location: This position is flexible within the Okanagan Region aside from approximately one day per month on site in office in Vernon or Kelowna, B.C.

The salary range for this position is $69,218 (min) to $86,522 (midpoint) to $99,501 (max) per annum, based on 1.0 FTE. Interior Health typically establishes salaries within the minimum and midpoint of the salary range based on qualifications, experience of the applicant, and an internal equity review of the salaries of other employees.

How will you create an impact:

The Coordinator, Medical Staff Occupational Health, Safety & Wellness (Coordinator) is a key member of the Medical Staff Occupational Health, Safety & Wellness (MSOHSW) program team. Reporting to the Specialist, MSOHSW, the Coordinator supports the operational delivery of initiatives that promote the safety, health, and wellness of medical staff.

The Coordinator contributes to the advancement and continuous improvement of MSOHSW program priorities, including regulatory compliance, violence prevention, physician safety and wellness initiatives, and the promotion of psychologically safe work environments.

The Coordinator collaborates with members of the MSOHSW Internal Working Group, Workplace Health & Safety (WHS), Medical Affairs, operational leaders, and internal and external partners to support the implementation and sustainment of an occupational health and safety framework aligned with WorkSafeBC requirements, organizational priorities, and commitments outlined in the Physician Main Agreement.

What will you work on:

• Coordinates and supports the delivery of MSOHSW program activities aligned with organizational and provincial priorities.
• Maintains the tracking system for relevant metrics, accesses and compiles data for various initiatives.
• Maintains reports and statistics and conducts research/troubleshooting as needed.
• Provides advice and recommendations to the Specialist, Medical Staff OHS&W through analysis and interpretation of Provincial Medical Staff Dashboard data, identifying trends, compliance gaps, emerging issues, and opportunities for targeted action and program improvement.
• Provides leadership in the coordination of assigned Medical Staff OHS&W projects and initiatives, such as fit testing and immunization, including monitoring compliance, identifying gaps and barriers, and recommending strategies and appropriate next steps to improve compliance.
• Provides analytical support by compiling and manipulating information/data, developing and generating queries, and preparing and compiling reports.
• Receives correspondence from key partners (e.g. WSBC) and enters relevant information into appropriate database/tracking systems.
• Supports agenda development, meeting preparation, and action item tracking for Internal and Regional Working Group meetings.
• Coordinates violence prevention training initiatives and campaigns, including communications and follow-up with medical staff.
• Tracks and monitors Physician Invoice Portal (PIP) submissions and related documentation.
• Assists with the development of program documents, processes, standard operating procedures, presentations, and resource materials.
• Maintains and updates Medical Staff OHS&W SharePoint site pages to ensure information is current, accessible, and aligned with program priorities.
• Supports campaigns related to wellness, fit testing, immunization, and workplace safety initiatives.
• Coordinates data collection and information gathering to support program planning, evaluation, and continuous quality improvement.
• Liaises with site contacts, Medical Administration Assistants, operational leaders, and partners to support coordination and implementation of program activities.
• Builds and maintains effective working relationships with internal and external partners and medical staff to support alignment, engagement, and integration of safety and wellness initiatives.
• Applies knowledge of occupational health and safety principles, WorkSafeBC standards, and occupational health and safety management systems to support effective program implementation.
• Supports a culture of safety, wellness, and psychological safety through proactive collaboration, communication, and continuous improvement.
• Travels regionally as required to support program delivery and engagement activities.
• In alignment with IH’s Occupational Health & Safety Program, employees shall adhere to all Occupational Health and Safety policies and procedures at all times and attend all required training. Employees are responsible to report any identified hazards, unsafe conditions or incidents to the manager or supervisor immediately.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education, Training and Experience

• Degree in a relevant field such as Occupational Health and Safety, Health Administration, Business Administration, Human Resources, or a related discipline.
• Three (3) to five (5) years of recent, related experience in occupational health and safety, healthcare, program coordination, or a related environment.
• Experience with quality improvement and change management methodologies is considered an asset.
• Or an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of occupational health and safety principles and relevant regulatory requirements (e.g., WorkSafeBC).
• Demonstrated ability to implement and coordinate projects and initiatives, including tracking deliverables, timelines, and action items.
• Strong analytical and reporting skills, with the ability to collect, interpret, and present data to support decision-making, continuous improvement, and tracking of program metrics (e.g., dashboards, compliance, incident trends).
• Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize competing demands in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships and engage effectively with medical staff, leadership, and diverse partners.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within interdisciplinary teams, with strong attention to detail.
• Demonstrated ability to prepare clear, concise reports, presentations, and business documentation.
• Understanding of medical staff culture and the ability to navigate complex organizational environments is an asset.
• Demonstrated commitment to fostering a culture of safety, wellness, and psychological safety.
