Interior Health is seeking a relief part time (0.88 FTE) Mental Health and Substance Use (MHSU) Crisis Response Worker to join our MH Crisis Response team in Kelowna, B.C. This relief position is until the return of the incumbent.

We are looking for a compassionate, resilient, and clinically skilled professional who is confident in responding to individuals experiencing acute mental health and/or substance use concerns. The ideal candidate brings strong crisis intervention, assessment, suicide risk assessment, and short-term treatment planning skills, with the ability to quickly build therapeutic relationships in fast-paced and unpredictable situations. The successful candidate is someone who is adaptable, collaborative, and comfortable providing mobile and community-based services while working independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team.

Experience providing mental health and substance use assessment and crisis response services is required.

What Will You Work On?

This position works with the community response team responding to mental health crisis and struggles in the community.

The Crisis Response Worker functions as a member of the larger Hospitals & Communities Integrated Services (HCIS) health care team and as a member of a specific multi-disciplinary team whose purpose is to provide direct and indirect mobile crisis intervention and mental health clinical services in order to ensure that persons with serious mental health problems and/or problematic substance use or withdrawal management issues have access to timely, responsive, evidence based treatment and clinical supports across the continuum of available services.

The Crisis Response Worker provides crisis response, assessment, suicide intervention, short term treatment planning, time limited case management and, as required, rapid response to clients who may also have serious functional impairment in the domains of physical health and personal, family, financial, occupational, and social life. The Crisis Response Worker functions as a primary clinician for short periods of time utilizing a variety of specialized treatment modalities/therapies for individuals, groups of clients and/or their families.

Some Typical Duties and Responsibilities:

• While directly involved with the client, conducts follow up assessments of the client’s condition and determines the client’s needs.
• Provides comprehensive short term bio/psycho/social services that include a continuum of services designed to optimize clients’ recovery and ability to function.
• Provides short term case management, supportive counseling, and other forms of direct service, and directly provides or assists the clients to access services to deal with treatment and recovery issues.
• Arranges access to specialized services.
• Identifies and responds to the need for involvement in discharge planning and follow up after an admission to a hospital unit or emergency department.
• Provides a quick response to individuals who present as “walk in” clients.
• Identifies and responds to the need for involvement in discharge planning and follow up after an admission to a hospital unit or emergency department.
• Documents assessments, treatment formulations, care plans and progress notes.
• Establishes effective working linkages/relationships with all pertinent service providers.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Scheduling Information:

Shift types are days and evenings and shift times are from 11:30 to 21:00 hours.

Qualifications

Education, Training and Experience:

Bachelor degree from an accredited educational institution in an Allied Health, Behavioural, or Social Science field relevant to the position.

Two years’ recent related experience in a mental health and substance use environment or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Current valid B.C. driver’s license (Class 5).
