Community Mental Health Worker | ACSS

Position Summary

We are currently seeking a casual Community Mental Health Worker 2 to join our Mental Health Substance Adult Community Support Services (ACSS) team located at the Community Health Services Centre in Kelowna, B.C.

Who are we looking for?

We are seeking a compassionate, resourceful, and client-centred Community Mental Health Worker 2 who brings experience supporting individuals living with severe and persistent mental health and/or substance use challenges. The ideal candidate will have strong skills in psychosocial rehabilitation, basic case management, supportive counselling, advocacy, and practical skill development, with the ability to build trusting relationships and work collaboratively with clients to identify meaningful goals and promote independence. The successful candidate will be confident supporting clients with daily living, wellness, community integration, self-advocacy, and harm reduction, while navigating complex health and social service systems. Strong communication, organization, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills are essential, along with the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team and establish positive partnerships with community agencies. We are looking for someone who approaches clients with empathy, respect, and a strengths-based perspective, recognizing their potential and actively supporting their participation in service planning and recovery.

What will you work on?

This position works within a multidisciplinary team using psychosocial rehabilitation principles. Successful applicant will have experience working directly with individuals who have a serious mental illness.

The Community Mental Health Worker 2 functions as a part of the larger Hospitals & Communities Integrated Services (HCIS) health care team and as a member of a specific Mental Health and Substance Use (MHSU) multi-disciplinary specialized team whose purpose is to ensure that persons with severe and persistent mental health problems and/or substance use disorders have access to timely, responsive, evidence based psychosocial rehabilitation across the continuum of available services. Performs a variety of life skills, advocacy, supportive counseling, psychosocial rehabilitation planning, and general support duties involving clients who are living in their own housing for the assigned client population(s).

Reporting to the HCIS Manager (or designate), working within a psychosocial rehabilitation/harm reduction framework and informed by existing psychiatric and other health professional assessments, the Community Mental Health Worker 2 provides basic case management, establishes rehabilitation objectives and/or psychosocial rehabilitation plans for the assigned client population(s) and is expected to engage clients in various community settings as people with full potential and as meaningful collaborators in their own service planning, delivery and evaluation.

Scheduling Information:

Shifts of work are rotating days and shift times are from 08:30 to 16:30 hours. This is a Casual opportunity. Casual means there are no guaranteed hours and work requirements can vary from 0 - 37.5 hours per week. Adult Community Support Services (ACSS) provides long-term treatment and support to help individuals with major mental illness and substance use issues with mental wellness and recovery goals. Services include assessments, medication review and monitoring, counselling, treatment and recovery plans, crisis intervention, life skills education, and referrals.

Qualifications

Education, Training and Experience:

• Grade 12
• Diploma in a field relevant to the position
• Two years recent related experience working with the assigned client population(s) experiencing mental health and/or substance abuse problems; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
• Current valid B.C. Driver’s License (Class 5)
