Interior Health is seeking a permanent full-time Residency Program Liaison to support resident physicians and help shape the future physician workforce across the region. The salary range for this position is $76,111 (min) to $95,138 (midpoint) to $109,409 (max) per annum, based on 1.0 FTE. Interior Health typically establishes salaries within the minimum and midpoint of the salary range based on qualifications, experience of the applicant, and an internal equity review of the salaries of other employees.
How will you create an impact:
The Residency Program Liaison supports Interior Health’s medical staff workforce strategy by acting as the primary support for postgraduate medical education (PGME) learners (i.e. residents) within Interior Health (IH) facilities and supports the proactive planning of residency programs across the IH region. Reporting to the Manager, Physician Extenders, this role is responsible for resident onboarding and orientation and coordinating administrative activities when residents are working within IH facilities and serves as a key liaison and planning link between IH and academic partners including the University of British Columbia (UBC), Simon Fraser University (SFU), and Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME) programs.
The Residency Program Liaison plays an important function in ensuring a positive learner experience, strengthening Interior Health’s partnerships with academic institutions, and proactively plans for program expansion where appropriate; these functions aim to enhance the physician pipeline, as well as recruitment and retention objectives.
What will you work on:
• Acts as Interior Health’s primary liaison with UBC, SFU, and other PGME program offices.
• Leads the development and improvement processes of resident doctors. Maintains effective working relationships with program directors, program administrators, and faculty leads.
• Leads the development of program recommendations for medical leadership committees and partner organizations, including preparation of data summaries, program metrics, and strategic insights. Represents Interior Health in planning meetings, working groups, and partnership forums as assigned.
• Leads communication, onboarding logistics, access and orientation, and off boarding processes for PGME learners when working within Interior Health sites/programs.
• Leads the alignment between academic program requirements and Interior Health operational realities. Maintains awareness of residency program structures and evolving academic requirements to support strategic alignment.
• Leads and manages communications related to resident placements and Interior Health policies and processes.
• Serves as the central point of coordination for resident administrative support, independently resolving routine issues and escalating complex matters as required.
• Contribute data, insights, and operational feedback to inform Medical Staff Workforce Strategy initiatives, including residency expansion positions and programs.
• Support the Manager, Physician Extenders, with project work and operational initiatives related to medical staff workforce strategy.
• Prioritizes workload and manages competing demands from multiple partners without direct day to day supervision.
• Provides information and guidance to residents regarding Interior Health scheduling, and internal policies.
• Collaborates with Finance, Human Resources, Medical Affairs or Medicine Portfolio on funding, stipends, and contractual elements.
• In alignment with IH’s Occupational Health & Safety Program, employees shall adhere to all Occupational Health and Safety policies and procedures at all times and attend all required training. Employees are responsible to report any identified hazards, unsafe conditions or incidents to the manager or supervisor immediately.

Qualifications
Education, Training and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Health Administration, Business Administration, Education, or a related discipline.
• Five (5) to seven (7) years of progressive experience in healthcare administration, medical education coordination, or academic program administration.
• Experience working with medical learners, academic institutions, or physician workforce programs is considered strong assets.
• Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Skills and Abilities
• Strong relationship building and partner engagement skills, with a demonstrated ability to establish trust, credibility, and collaborative partnerships.
• Proven experience coordinating and influencing diverse internal and external partners across organizations, disciplines, and levels of seniority, including navigating differing priorities, resolving conflict, and fostering alignment toward shared objectives.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messaging to different audiences and support productive working relationships.
• Demonstrated organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, competing demands, and deadlines.
• Analytical and problem solving skills, exercising sound judgment in complex environments and using a collaborative approach to address issues.
• Proficiency with standard business and administrative systems to support efficient coordination and communication.
• A BC Driver’s License as some travel is required.
• Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
