Internal Communications Consultant (WORKSITE LOCATION IS FLEXIBLE)

Salary range for the position is $76,111 to $109,409. Interior Health establishes salaries within the minimum and maximum of the salary range based on consideration of the qualifications, experience of the applicant, and an internal equity review of the salaries of other employees.

How will you create an impact:
The Internal Communications Consultant works closely with Interior Health (IH) leaders to develop strategic communications that inform and engage large, IH-wide audiences primarily including employees, medical staff, and volunteers, as well as cross-functional support, as required, for content creation to external audiences.

The Internal Communications Consultant is responsible for developing, managing, and delivering high-quality, timely staff-facing content and strategic plans. The Internal Communications Consultant develops and maintains collaborative relationships with internal partners as well as the broader Internal Communications team to meet their client(s)’ needs in a manner that supports organizational objectives and reflects the IH values and goals.

Additionally, the Consultant works collaboratively with other Internal Communications team members, contributing their particular expertise and skills as required, in support of communication content and plans.

The position requires an organized, confident, high-energy, self-directed, solutions-oriented individual with exceptional communication skills that works well under pressure and deadlines. Tact, discretion, teamwork, and excellent customer service skills are imperative.

What will you work on:
• Acts as a strategic and trusted advisor to assigned internal client groups of IH leaders or portfolios. Works to understand their internal communication needs and provides guidance on effective communications strategies and supporting tactics that will help them inform their audiences, anticipate and respond to issues, and articulate their messages.

• Proactively supports the development, implementation, and evaluation of IH-wide staff-facing communication plans for projects and initiatives. Works in partnership with program and department leads, to effectively communicate their programs, initiatives, and services to diverse internal audiences as required.

• Uses strong presentation and content development skills to create clear, timely and creative communication deliverables, including but not limited to storytelling, memos, speaking notes, newsletters, or multimedia content as assigned or to meet internal partners’ needs.

• Identifies opportunities for improved two-way communication and methods for IH to most effectively share information with its staff as well as external audiences.

• Seeks out opportunities to engage with relevant partners, to increase own knowledge and understanding of context, perspective, pressures; shares learnings with Internal Communications team; considers specific needs of identified audiences, including Indigenous, rural communities, patients/clients, partners, community leaders, etc.

• As a member of the Internal Communications team, participates in the development or delivery of various communications-related resources made available to senior management, directors, and staff.

• Provides Communications on-call (after hours) coverage according to schedule.

• Collaborates with other Internal Communications team members, as required, to coordinate and execute assigned tasks, enabling seamless service delivery for clients and meeting deadlines.

• Seeks out opportunities to increase technical communications and engagement skills and awareness of best practices, industry standards, etc. and to share key learnings with Internal Communications team.

• In alignment with IH’s Occupational Health & Safety Program, employees shall adhere to all Occupational Health and Safety policies and procedures at all times and attend all required training. Employees are responsible to report any identified hazards, unsafe conditions or incidents to the manager or supervisor immediately.

• Performs other related duties as may be assigned.

Qualifications

Education, Training and Experience
• A Bachelor’s degree specializing in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field.
• A minimum of 5 years or recent, related experience.
• An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, with demonstrated results in communications will also be considered.
• Previous experience in internal or corporate communications, and knowledge of the health-care operating environment, are an asset.

Skills and Abilities
• Ability to work as part of a collaborative, high performance team.
• Demonstrated understanding of communications, marketing and public or media relations best practices.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication and proof-reading skills.
• Ability to develop, implement, and evaluate strategic, operational, and issues management-related communication.
• Ability to effectively work with senior leaders and other partners in a wide variety of settings across IH.
• Strong understanding of political and health-care environment, including local and regional councils and leadership structures in British Columbia.
• Creative and skilled in presenting content visually through various media (websites, social media, presentations, videos, print, etc.).

• Ability to remain calm, alert, and high functioning under stressful situations.
• Ability to handle highly confidential and sensitive issues with skill, tact, and diplomacy.
