Salary range for the position is $118,923 to $170,951. Interior Health establishes salaries within the minimum and maximum of the salary range based on consideration of the qualifications, experience of the applicant, and an internal equity review of the salaries of other employees.

How will you create an impact:

The Director, Compensation, Work Design & Benefits, provides leadership and advice to set the direction as well as execute Interior Health (IH) wide compensation, work design, and employee benefit strategies. Specifically, the Director is responsible and accountable for the daily operations of the program, standardizing and streamlining processes to ensure practices and policies are in accordance with legislative and contractual standards, while addressing short-, medium-, and long-term organizational goals. The Director is also responsible for the development, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement of compensation, work design, and benefits initiatives that enhance the efficient and effective delivery of services within IH.

The Director interacts with and maintains broad internal and external contacts for the purpose of setting the compensation, work design, and benefits framework for IH. Internally, the Director builds and maintains relationships with senior leaders, managers, and staff within the organization. Externally, the Director fosters and influences the organization’s relationships with the Health Employers Association of British Columbia (HEABC), government agencies, other Health Authorities, trade unions, special interest groups, and members of the public in matters related to human resource practices and strategies within IH.

What will you work on:

• Works collaboratively with internal and external partners and provides leadership and consultation in the successful design, planning, implementation, integration, and evaluation of initiatives relating to renewal, redesign, restructuring, and reconfiguration of operational services.

• Responsible for overseeing and directing the delivery of benefits and employee records activities, as well as the continuous development of employee-centric services. Supports the integration of benefits services for the ongoing development of benefit models, policies, and procedures while ensuring organizational compliance.

• Ensures effective interpretation and application of the management and non-contract Compensation Reference Plan (CRP) as well as negotiated classification plans and provisions within provincial collective agreements. Collaborates with the Health Employers Association of BC (HEABC) with ongoing development of compensation models, policies, and procedures ensuring compliance with Provincial and health authority policies and procedures.

• Responsible for overseeing and administering the annual performance management process for executive and excluded IH staff, which includes completing compensation reports and ensuring compliance with Public Sector Employers Council and HEABC policies.

• Maintains relationships with key internal partners and encourages understanding and cooperation in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the strategic directions and performance goals of IH.

• Develops practices, policies, and procedures that are in accordance with legislative, collective agreement, and organizational standards.

• Advises the Executive Director of significant issues arising that may adversely affect the operation or reputation of the organization

• Acts as a senior subject matter expert in the designated areas of compensation, work design and benefits both internally to the organization, as well as externally on industry tables and with peer leaders across the province by regularly attending Advisory committees on behalf of the organization.

• Provides leadership and guidance to employees using effective management techniques; coaches and mentors employees; conducts performance evaluations and creates a learning environment that promotes and supports professional growth of all employees; participates in recruitment activities and makes hiring and discipline decisions.

• Develops and recommends budgets, monitors expenditures, performs variance analysis and reporting, and implements remedial action.

• In alignment with IH’s Occupational Health & Safety Program, maintain a healthy and safe work environment through complying with and implementing applicable Occupational Health and Safety Regulation, responding to requests from WSBC, identifying hazards and communicating risks, ensuring compliance with employee training, conducting effective incident investigations and implementing required corrective actions.

• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education, Training, and Experience
• A Master’s degree in Human Resources Management, Health Informatics, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation preferred.
• Ten years of recent, related experience in a complex healthcare or unionized environment.
