Salary range for the position is $90,770 to $$130,481. Interior Health establishes salaries within the minimum and maximum of the salary range based on consideration of the qualifications, experience of the applicant, and an internal equity review of the salaries of other employees.

How will you create an impact:

The Portfolio Lead, Nurse Practitioners provides strategic and operational leadership to support the integration, advancement, and sustainability of Nurse Practitioner practice across Interior Health (IH). Working collaboratively with the Executive Director, Directors, Nurse Practitioners, NP Leads, clinical operations, and key organizational and external partners, the Portfolio Lead supports the implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement of NP services, workforce strategies, and models of care across the health region.

This role provides leadership in the development and optimization of standardized NP processes, including recruitment, onboarding, orientation, workforce planning, operational workflows, and practice supports to enhance consistency, provider experience, quality improvement, and patient-centered care delivery.

The Portfolio Lead actively collaborates with regional programs, medical leadership, Indigenous Health partners, academic institutions, and interdisciplinary teams to advance innovative, culturally safe, team-based models of care that align with organizational and provincial priorities. Through strong relationship-building, data-informed decision-making, change leadership, and quality improvement principles, this position supports the ongoing growth and integration of the NP workforce to improve access, health outcomes, workforce sustainability, and service delivery for the populations served by Interior Health.

The Portfolio Lead, Nurse Practitioners supports the Executive Director of Nurse Practitioners, Directors, and Nurse Practitioner Leads in the integration and advancement of Nurse Practitioner practice in IH. This includes, but is not limited to the implementation, maintenance, evaluation, and monitoring of NP services across the health region. Actively collaborates with regional/site/program administrative Managers within the context of an integrated system of services built upon the foundation of interprofessional practice.

Additionally, the Portfolio Lead, Nurse Practitioners provides strategic and operational leadership to support in advancing and integrating Nurse Practitioner (NP) practice across Interior Health. The role oversees the planning, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement of NP services, workforce strategies, and operational systems.

Working in close collaboration with clinical operations, internal partners, and external agencies, the Portfolio Lead leads the development and delivery of strategic NP initiatives that enhance access, support team-based care, and align organizational and provincial priorities. The role partners with regional, site, and program leaders to drive data-informed decision-making and ensure high-quality, sustainable, patient-centered care.

What will you work on:

• Leads the development and implementation of a comprehensive Nurse Practitioner (NP) portfolio and workforce strategy in collaboration with the Executive Director NPs, Directors, and NP Leads, including role clarity, workforce optimization, and reporting structures.
• Aligns NP services and models of care with organizational, regional, and provincial priorities, including team-based care, access-to-care strategies, and rural and underserved community needs.
• Provides leadership and day-to-day guidance to staff supporting the NP portfolio, including administrative functions, utilizing effective management practices such as coaching, mentoring, and performance management.
• Leads NP workforce planning activities, including recruitment, hiring, onboarding, retention, succession planning, and IH NP development, in collaboration with Human Resources. Coordinates and supports onboarding processes, maintains workforce data, and contributes to the development of workforce plans and related initiatives.
• Participates in labour relations activities as required, including interpretation of contracts, collective agreements, non-contract agreements, and relevant legislation in consultation with Human Resources.
• Develops, implements, and oversees operational systems and processes supporting NP workflow, documentation, scheduling, service delivery, and accountability.
• Leads the development and optimization of NP locum coverage models, booking, and scheduling processes to ensure continuity of care and effective resource utilization.
• Oversees processes related to NP onboarding, orientation, student placements, and ongoing professional and mandatory learning requirements, ensuring consistency with organizational standards.
• Designs, implements, and continually improves systems, tools, and digital solutions to enhance efficiency, standardization, and effectiveness across the NP portfolio.
• Establishes and leads continuous quality improvement initiatives, including the development, implementation, and monitoring of quality metrics, performance indicators, and evaluation frameworks.
• Oversees the collection, analysis, and reporting of data related to NP practice and workforce performance, including productivity, encounter coding, utilization, trends, and service delivery outcomes.
• Prepares dashboards, reports, statistical summaries, charts, graphs, and briefing materials to support decision-making and communicate NP portfolio performance to leadership and invested partners.
• Analyzes trends and data related to workforce utilization, sick time, turnover, vacation, vacancies, and growth opportunities to inform operational and strategic planning.
• Develops and leads project management activities for NP portfolio initiatives, including planning, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, risk identification, and mitigation.
• Represents the NP portfolio on internal and external committees, working groups, and strategic initiatives as a subject matter expert.
• Builds and sustains effective partnerships with clinical operations, medical affairs, academic institutions, and external agencies to advance NP integration, innovation, and service delivery.
• Participates in coordinating and optimizing the utilization of shared resources, including services, equipment, and space, across departments and sites.
• Manages assigned financial resources related to the NP portfolio, including input into annual budgeting, forecasting, monitoring expenditures, variance analysis, and identification of cost-effective service delivery models.
• Ensures compliance with provincial legislation, regulatory requirements, organizational policies, and Board-established standards related to NP practice and operations.
• Leads and supports communication strategies to enhance awareness, engagement, and understanding of NP roles, initiatives, and portfolio priorities across the organization.
• Supports the preparation of annual reports and evaluation summaries for the NP portfolio, including the collection, analysis, and synthesis of workforce and service delivery data. Contributes to the development of evaluation reports, performance metrics, and data-informed insights to support organizational planning and decision-making.
• In alignment with IH’s Occupational Health & Safety Program, maintain a healthy and safe work environment through complying with and implementing applicable Occupational Health and Safety Regulation, responding to requests from WSBC, identifying hazards and communicating risks, ensuring compliance with IH NP training, conducting effective incident investigations and implementing required corrective actions.

Qualifications

Education, Training and Experience

• A Master’s Degree in a health-related field.
• Five (5) years of recent, related experience with three years in a management/administrative position/leadership.
• Current practicing membership with the relevant professional association if applicable.
• Or an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

Skills and Abilities

• General knowledge of project management concepts, methods, practice, and tools.
• Demonstrated customer-focused approach.
• Ability to orchestrate multiple activities at once to accomplish results.
• Superior computer skills are essential.
• Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
