Student – Information Privacy and FOI Services

Position Summary

Interior Health is hiring a Student – Information Privacy and FOI Services to join the Information Privacy and FOI team in Kelowna, B.C. This position is for approximately six months. (July to December 2026).

What will you work on?

The student supports the Information Privacy Services team in advancing organizational compliance with privacy legislation, policies, and best practices. This role provides hands-on experience in privacy program operations, including process design, privacy risk assessments, breach response support, and audit activities. The student will contribute to both proactive and reactive privacy initiatives while working in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

By the end of the work term, the student will gain practical experience in privacy program operations and compliance frameworks, develop skills in privacy risk assessment and breach response, understand real-world applications of information access auditing and controls and build professional competencies in policy analysis, documentation, and stakeholder collaboration.

SOME TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. File Intake Process
• Assist in designing, documenting, and implementing a structured file intake process for privacy-related requests and files
• Analyze current workflows and recommend improvements to enhance efficiency, consistency, and tracking
• Develop templates, guidelines, and process documentation to support standardized intake practices

2. Privacy Impact Assessment Reviews
• Review Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs) based on standardized template
• Identify privacy risks, gaps, and compliance issues, and document recommendations to mitigate identified risks
• Collaborate with team members to ensure consistency and quality in assessment reviews

3. Privacy Breach Response Support
• Assist with intake, triage, and documentation of reported privacy breaches
• Support investigations by gathering and organizing relevant information
• Contribute to breach analysis, including root cause identification and risk evaluation
• Assist in preparing incident summaries, reports, and follow-up documentation

4. Information Access Auditing
• Support proactive and reactive auditing of information access to ensure compliance with privacy policies and procedures
• Analyze access logs and identify anomalies or potential unauthorized access
• Assist in documenting audit findings and tracking remediation actions
• Contribute to continuous improvement of audit processes and tools

Salary Range:

Salary range for the position is $22.66 to $25.75. Interior Health establishes salaries within the minimum and maximum of the salary range based on consideration of the qualifications, experience of the applicant, and an internal equity review of the salaries of other employees.

Qualifications

Education, Training and Experience:

• Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program in Law, Public Administration, Information Management, Privacy, Cybersecurity, or a related field
• Strong interest in information privacy, data protection, and regulatory compliance
• Related experience an asset

• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage confidential information with discretion
• Effective written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work with sensitive and confidential information requiring a high degree of discretion
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
• Ability to deal with others effectively and work both independently and as part of a team
• Ability to focus on details, organize work a prioritize multiple tasks
