Data & Analytics Student (WORKSITE LOCATION IS FLEXIBLE)

Position Summary

Interior Health is hiring a Data & Analytics Student to join the Data Governance & Advanced Analytics Team.

This position qualifies for flexible work location (within the Interior Health region only). This opportunity is available from approximately May to August 2026.

What will you work on?

Interior Health is hiring a Data & Analytics Student to support the Data Governance & Advanced Analytics team. The team plays a key role in ensuring data across the organization is well‑managed, trusted, and used responsibly to support clinical care, operations, planning, and analytics.

The Data Governance & Advanced Analytics team supports data stewardship, data literacy, metadata management, and data access through a structured data management and lifecycle approach. This student role will contribute to foundational data governance activities while also supporting more technical work related to metadata, data cataloguing, and documentation that enables analytics and reporting across the organization.

In alignment with Interior Health’s vision and values, the student will work as part of the Data Governance & Advanced Analytics team, collaborating closely with team members and partners across Health Technology & Clinical Services and Data & Analytics. The student will gain hands‑on experience applying academic learning to real‑world data governance and analytics initiatives within a complex healthcare environment.

Some Typical Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Assist in the development and documentation of data governance policies, standards and guidelines.
2. Support data lifecycle processes, including archiving, retention, and documentation of data management practices.
3. Maintain and update metadata repositories and data catalog information to support data discovery and understanding.
4. Develop and maintain documentation related to data processes, standards, and definitions.
5. Participate in team meetings, working sessions, and knowledge‑sharing activities, and provide updates on assigned data initiatives.
6. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Salary Range:

Salary range for the position is $22.66 to $25.75. Interior Health establishes salaries within the minimum and maximum of the salary range based on consideration of the qualifications, experience of the applicant, and an internal equity review of the salaries of other employees.

Qualifications

Education, Training and Experience:

• Enrolled in a post- secondary degree or advanced diploma (post-degree) with completed course work in a health-related discipline, health administration, business, information management, data/analytics or related field, or equivalent combination of education, qualification, and skills.

• Demonstrated experience in a complex computer & technical environment, including exposure to data, analytics, or information systems through academic or applied experience.

Skills and abilities:

Able to engage with peers to facilitate and participate in assigned projects and tasks.
Concise and effective communication skills, both written and verbal. An ability to professionally engage with team members and stakeholders to execute assigned work.
Willingness to learn how theoretical knowledge applies in a practical work environment. Curious and open to learn.
Responsible for work product / outcomes within scope of duties and under supervision & direction of the assigned Manager.
Demonstrated skills and competencies in relevant data management, statistical and/or data visualization software programs such as Excel, SAS, R, Power BI and/or equivalent.
Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
