Life Skills Worker | MHSU Complex Care House

Position Summary

Interior Health is currently seeking a casual Life Skills Worker I to join our Mental Health Substance Use (MHSU) Complex Care Program team in Kamloops, B.C.

What will you work on?


The Complex Care Program supports people who face significant mental health and substance use and/or medical challenges that result in difficulty finding and maintaining a home. It is housing that provides ongoing care through a variety of health services and supports, all within a home environment.

Life Skills Workers play an important role in care. They plan, observe, monitor and report on clients’ progress and level of acceptance to services and support. They assist clients with activities associated with daily living and work to demonstrate and model appropriate behaviors related to problem solving and decision making.

Life Skills Workers provide structured support to help develop and maintain life skills related to:

• time management;
• money management, budgeting skills, how to access funds and other forms of available assistance;
• organization and interpersonal communication;
• personal care (e.g.: hygiene, routine);
• household management (e.g.: laundry, cleaning);
• menu planning, grocery shopping, meal preparation
• community access (e.g.: public transportation)

Scheduling Information:

Shift types are days and evenings. Shift times are from 08:30 to 19:40 hours. This is a Casual opportunity. Casual means there are no guaranteed hours and work requirements can vary from 0 - 37.5 hours per week. Qualifications

Education, Training and Experience:

• Grade 12
• Certificate in a field relevant to the position (i.e.: community social services, rehabilitation) and one year recent related experience working with individuals experiencing mental health and substance use problems; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• Valid certificates in CPR, First Aid and Food Safe required.
• Current valid B.C. Driver’s License.
