Salary range for the position is $74,618 to $107,264. Interior Health establishes salaries within the minimum and maximum of the salary range based on consideration of the qualifications, experience of the applicant, and an internal equity review of the salaries of other employees.

How will you create an impact:
The Occupational Health Nurse and Safety Advisor is responsible for the development, implementation, maintenance, and evaluation of employee health programs in Interior Health (IH). The OHN and Safety Advisor coordinates and/or delivers a variety of health promotion, injury, illness, and disease prevention services to IH employees in collaboration with Workplace Health & Safety (WH&S) team members; IH departments; and external partners such as the Workplace Health Call Centre, WorkSafeBC (WSC), the BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC), and the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) to support IH’s mission, vision, and strategic directives.

In alignment with IH’s Occupational Health & Safety Program, employees shall adhere to all Occupational Health and Safety policies and procedures at all times and attend all required training. Employees are responsible to report any identified hazards, unsafe conditions or incidents to your manager or supervisor immediately.

What will you work on:
Implements and improves Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) programs that address biological hazards for at risk employee groups. These programs include health assessments, monitoring, surveillance, and health teaching components in accordance with the Worker’s Compensation Act (WCA) and BC Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Regulations, PHAC, and BCCDC recommendations.

• Maintains confidential health records for employees as per IH policy and the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.

• Conducts health assessments for biological exposures, providing information and arranging surveillance protocols (e.g., Tuberculosis [TB], Blood & Body Fluid [BBF], and communicable disease exposures).

• Coordinates Communicable Disease programs and engages site leadership in program implementation and support (e.g., annual influenza immunization campaign, BBF program, TB surveillance program, and immunization program).

• Conducts Communicable Disease audits and provides recommendations.

• Supports site leadership in the management of communicable disease outbreaks as directed by the Medical Health Officer, Public Health, Infection Control, and the Ministry of Health.

• Coordinates and supports surveillance and screening programs to comply with regulatory and contractual agreements (e.g., TB, Meningitis, and Hepatitis B immunization).

General Safety Duties Include:

• Uses project and change management principles to plan, implement, evaluate, and sustain OHS program elements to strengthen a culture of health and safety in IH.

• Provides guidance to the organization for meeting or exceeding regulatory compliance by using a systems approach to health and safety.

• Participates in the development of OHS policies and procedures in accordance with the WCA, BC OHS Regulation, PHAC policies, and BCCDC.

• Develops tools, guidelines, and educational resources such as webinars and modules to support site/department implementation of OHS program policies and procedures.

• Provides support and process consultation to leadership, management, HR, and other partners during the implementation, sustainment, and improvement of OHS programs.

• Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications

• A Bachelor’s degree in Nursing and a practicing member of the British Columbia College of Nurses & Midwives (BCCNM) in good standing.
• A current BCCDC Immunization certification.
• A minimum of three years of experience in nursing with preference given to a candidate with experience in Occupational Health Nursing, Occupational Health and Safety, Public Health, or Infection Control Nursing or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
• An Occupational Health Nurse Certificate OHN(C) is preferred.
