Rural Adult Mental Health and Substance Use Worker | EPI

Position Summary

An exciting relief part time (0.80 FTE) opportunity is now available for a Rural Adult Mental Health & Substance Use Worker with our Mental Health Substance Use (MHSU) Early Psychosis Intervention (EPI) team in Williams Lake, B.C. This relief position is until December 15, 2025 or return of the incumbent.

Who are we looking for?


We are seeking an experienced and independent mental health professional with critical thinking skills to join our team. This is a substance use response role where the clinician will work closely with the crisis response nurse to provide the response to clients experiencing substance use diagnosis. The teamwork will include community visits, ER visits, and liaising with all community providers so the individual should have excellent communication skills and ability to problem solve solutions with clients as well as have a client care focus, trauma informed lens and understand the importance of teamwork.

What will you work on?

The Rural Adult Mental Health & Substance Use Worker functions as a member of the multi-disciplinary team, whose purpose is to ensure that adults with serious mental disorders and/or substance use have access to responsive, sensitive and relevant assessment and treatment services. The program serves the adult and elderly population that experiences mental health disorders or substance use and impairment in personal, family, financial, occupational and/or social life. This includes individuals with acute psychosis, bizarre behavior, depression, anxiety, complicated grief, suicidal ideation, substance use, substance dependence and concurrent disorders.

The primary duties include intake assessment, crisis intervention, referral, case management, psychogeriatric support, collaborative community planning, psycho-education with clients and their families, and liaison with appropriate professionals. Duties include urgent response intervention to individuals in acute crisis, consultation with other care providers to identify educational needs for the community and subsequent strategies to address these needs, and to coordinate services for adults and elderly with mental health and/or substance use problems.

Scheduling Information:

Shifts of work are Monday to Thursday; shift times are 08:30 to 16:30 hours.

Qualifications

Education, Training and Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in a Health, Behavioural or Social Science related field, from an accredited university.

Two (2) years recent related experience in a community mental health and/or substance use setting; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Current valid BC driver’s license (Class V).
