About the Job
The Public Health Nurse (PHN), as an integral member of the Public Health Services team:
• Provides prenatal/postnatal assessments, counseling, and referral to effect a healthy and safe maternal/child transition from hospital to community
• Provides expectant and new parents with breastfeeding support, anticipatory guidance and nursing care and teaches treatment procedures to promote infant and self-care
• Coordinates PHN services with those of community services and agencies by liaising with physicians, hospitals, social workers and other community services and agencies, organizing and presenting client information in case conferences, arranges joint home visits with colleagues and/or other professionals
• Provides health education and health promotion services in homes, communities, to individuals, families and groups to increase knowledge regarding health, promote health behavior change and encourage self-care by assessing educational/information needs, applying adult education principles and techniques, preparing childbearing educational material, conducting educational sessions, conducting health promotion campaigns and acting as a resource/advisory capacity to others such as professionals and support workers through explanation, compiling handouts and pamphlets based on standard of care. The population this position focuses on is childbearing and childrearing families in the prenatal/postnatal period.
This is a Relief Part Time (0.59) opportunity until January 13, 2027, or the return of the incumbent.
Shifts of work will be scheduled days from 08:30 to 16:30 hours.

Qualifications
• Current practicing registration as a registered nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
• Current International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) certification.
• One (1) year recent, related experience in public health maternity care nursing; two (2) years recent related experience in clinical lactation care; or an equivalent combination of education, training experience.
• Current valid BC Driver’s License.
