Position Summary

Join our multidisciplinary healthcare team as a Clinical Dietitian in the Diabetes Education Program, where you’ll have a key role in providing nutritional care and support to individuals living with diabetes. The schedule for this permanent part-time (0.87 FTE) role are Monday to Thursday 08:30-17:00.

About the position:

The Kamloops Seniors Health & Wellness Centre provides specialized short-term care (four to eight weeks) for seniors referred by their family doctor, nurse practitioner, or specialist. The interprofessional team may include geriatricians, family physicians, mental health clinicians, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, dietitians, rehabilitation assistants, speech and language pathologists, pharmacists, nurses, social workers, and respiratory therapists. Patient partners have helped inform staff orientation at this centre to better understand the needs and experiences of older adults.

As Clinical Dietitian - Diabetes Education Program, you will be a member of a multidisciplinary health care team and provide nutritional care and support to clients living with all types of diabetes. Utilizing and applying advanced knowledge and experience in relevant clinical techniques (through Insulin Dose Adjustment (IDA) competency and/or Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) qualifications) and in collaboration with the health care team, the Clinical Dietitian will provide nutritional services through: nutritional assessment; care planning and charting; intervention, client goal setting and monitoring; counseling and education programs for patients/clients; orientation, guidance, and sharing of collegial information or demonstration of equipment or work processes to others including peers, new staff, and students in accordance with professional standards and program objectives.

Qualifications

- Baccalaureate degree in nutrition and dietetics.
- Successful completion of an accredited hospital based dietetic internship program (or equivalent acceptable to the facility).
- Full registration as a Registered Dietitian with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC (CHCPBC).
- Two (2) years of clinical nutrition experience including one (1) year working with Diabetes clients in a health care environment, or an equivalent combination of education, experience and/or training suitable to the facility or program is required.
- Insulin Dose Adjustment (IDA) Competency, or Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) or completion of the Diabetes Educator Certificate Program from Michener Institute.
- Valid Driver’s License is required.
