About the Job
The Registered Nurse:
• Provides nursing care to OR patients, both by working independently and as a member of an interdisciplinary team
• Enhances quality of life for the patient and family; consults, confers, and collaborates with other health care providers
• Demonstrates continuous improvement and evidence based practice in nursing practice
• Maintains and advances own clinical competence
• Participates on designated hospital committees/teams and approved research projects as assigned
This is a Relief Part Time (0.79 FTE) opportunity until January 22, 2025, or the return of the incumbent.
Shifts of work will be scheduled days Monday to Friday from 07:00 to 15:00 hours.
About this location/unit
Elk Valley Hospital (EVH) is a 20-bed Level 1 Community Hospital located in Fernie, BC and offers services including inpatient, obstetrics, and emergency. One operating room suite performs surgical procedures, including gynecology/OBS, C-Section, D & C, excision of ganglion, vasectomies, surface cancer excision, hernia repair and upper and lower GI scoping. This position includes work duties in pre-surgical services, infusions, and surgical daycare areas. Hours of operation are weekdays Monday to Friday with on-call overnight with the aim of 24/7 on call to support C-Section and Trauma coverage.

Qualifications
• Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM)
• Current CPR certification required
• Advanced preparation in the clinical specialty of the assigned area (perioperative nursing) and one year recent related clinical experience in the assigned practice environment on an operating room similar in size and scope to the facility or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
Note: Sites requiring competency in Emergency Room, Perianesthesia and Medical Device Reprocessing functions may also require NRP, TNCC and ACLS certificates.
