Interior Health is looking for full-time, part-time and casual NPs to join our dynamic Nurse Practitioner (NP) Hospitalist program in Vernon, BC.

Working in an interdisciplinary team and collaboratively with the Hospitalists GPs and NP, the NP will be responsible for the care of a group of inpatients managing and directing clinical care, participating in short-term and long-term planning of patient care with members of the inter-professional team, and coordinating the transitions in care. A population of focus will be the older adult patients admitted to the hospitalist program with sub-acute and complex chronic care needs. Management of behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia is an asset. Working at a high level of autonomy is expected along with collaboration, consultation and referrals to physicians and other members of the health care team.

Hours are 0800-1600 and rotating schedule includes weekends and stats, and potentially on call.

Salary Range:
Salary range for the position is $74.74/hour - $82.21/hour. Interior Health establishes salaries within the minimum and maximum of the salary range based on consideration of the qualifications, experience of the applicant.

Key Responsibilities:

Diagnosis and Treatment: Assess and diagnose undifferentiated diseases and conditions, provide treatment, and prescribe medications in line with the Nurse Practitioner’s scope of practice and regulatory standards.

Care Management: Monitor ongoing care, order diagnostic investigations, interpret results, and develop tailored treatment plans to optimize patient outcomes.

Patient Communication: Establish care priorities, provide follow-up treatment, and communicate effectively with patients and families about diagnoses, care plans, and prognoses.

Collaboration and Consultation: Work closely with physicians and other healthcare professionals to assess, diagnose, and create individualized treatment plans. May also admit and discharge patients as per organizational policies.

Prescribing Medication: Prescribe medications within legal and regulatory guidelines, ensuring the safe and effective use of pharmaceutical treatments.

Leadership and Supervision: Lead and guide other nursing and healthcare personnel. Provide education, supervision, and performance evaluations to support professional development.

Research and Innovation: Contribute to research aimed at enhancing patient care and advancing nursing practices. Participate in initiatives to influence healthcare policies and population health strategies.

Health Promotion: Lead health promotion activities and screenings, focusing on at-risk populations to prevent illness and promote well-being.

Education and Mentorship: Facilitate interdisciplinary education through case presentations, mentoring, and collaboration in clinical and community settings. Support continuous learning and knowledge sharing.

Policy Development: Develop, implement, and evaluate policies related to nursing, interdisciplinary care, and health system practices.

Palliative and Long-Term Care: Serve as the most responsible provider for patients in palliative, hospice, and long-term care settings when required.

Safety and Compliance: Adhere to Occupational Health and Safety guidelines to maintain a safe and healthy work environment. Ensure compliance with training and incident investigation protocols.

Additional Responsibilities: Perform other duties as necessary to support patient care and organizational goals.

Qualifications

Education: Master’s degree in Nursing (NP) or equivalent.
Certification: Current Nurse Practitioner certification with the applicable regulatory body.
Experience: Previous experience in a clinical or healthcare setting, with the ability to diagnose, treat, and manage patient care is considered an asset.
