About the Job:
Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN):
• Performs assessments and plans, implements and provides personal and nursing care to patients in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team; the scope or extent of the skills that the LPN performs varies according to the predictability of the outcome for a given client population
• Under the direction and supervision of a physician/nurse practitioner (NP), provides orthopaedic care by performing duties such as assessing and evaluating patient condition; reviewing x-rays to confirm plan of care; applying casts and splints; removing externally exposed pins, wires, staples and sutures; setting up traction equipment and performs related orthopaedic duties
• Operates in accordance with the competency guidelines and full scope of practice within the Standards of Practice as outlined by the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM), and according to organizational policies, procedures, standards and unit specific protocols

About this location/unit:
Our Emergency Department receives 37,000+ patient visits per year and the staffing complement consists of a Patient Care Coordinator, RNs, a LPN, and Unit Clerk. The RNs work 12-hour shifts and we operate the High Acuity Response Team for the South Okanagan Region which is a great opportunity for anyone looking to expand their scope of nursing practice.

Qualifications
• Graduation from a BCCNM recognized practical nursing education program plus completion of formal post-basic education in Orthopaedics, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
• Current practicing licensure with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) required
