What will you work on?

The Community Mental Health Worker 2 functions as a part of the larger Hospitals & Communities Integrated Services (HCIS) health care team and as a member of a specific Mental Health and Substance Use (MHSU) multi-disciplinary specialized team whose purpose is to ensure that persons with severe and persistent mental health problems and/or substance use disorders have access to timely, responsive, evidence based psychosocial rehabilitation across the continuum of available services. Performs a variety of life skills, advocacy, supportive counseling, psychosocial rehabilitation planning, and general support duties involving clients who are living in their own housing for the assigned client population(s).

Reporting to the HCIS Manager (or designate), working within a psychosocial rehabilitation/harm reduction framework and informed by existing psychiatric and other health professional assessments, the Community Mental Health Worker 2 provides basic case management, establishes rehabilitation objectives and/or psychosocial rehabilitation plans for the assigned client population(s) and is expected to engage clients in various community settings as people with full potential and as meaningful collaborators in their own service planning, delivery and evaluation.

Scheduling Information:

Shift types for this position are days; and shift times are from 08:00 to 18:00 hours. This is a Casual opportunity. Casual means there are no guaranteed hours and work requirements can vary from 0 - 37.5 hours per week. About this Unit:

Lansdowne Centre is one of Interior Health’s Mental Health Centres which provide many services including adult community support, adult short-term assessment and treatment, community residential programs, geriatric programs, crisis intervention, day and outpatient programs, addictions counselling, concurrent disorders services, group therapy, peer support, and after-hours mental health support.

Qualifications

Education, Training and Experience:

Grade 12

Diploma in a field relevant to the position (Community Mental Health etc.)

Two years recent related experience working with the assigned client population(s) experiencing mental health and/or substance abuse problems; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience

Current valid B.C. Driver’s License

Skills and Abilities:

• Working knowledge of mental health issues and treatment in the assigned client population(s)
• Working knowledge of the principles of recovery in mental illness in the assigned client population(s)
• Working knowledge of community, social and health resources
• Ability to demonstrate and assist client with development of health life skills
• Ability to deal effectively with conflict situations, and use non-violent crisis intervention techniques
• Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
• Ability to observe and recognize changes in clients
• Ability to establish and maintain rapport with clients
• Ability to work with a culturally diverse population
• Ability to instruct
• Ability to plan, organize, prioritize and meet deadlines
• Ability to work independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary team
• Ability to analyze and resolve problems
• Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position
• Ability to operate related equipment including proficiency in relevant computer applications
• Advocacy skills
