Salary range for the position is $74618 to $107264 . Interior Health establishes salaries within the minimum and maximum of the salary range based on consideration of the qualifications, experience of the applicant, and an internal equity review of the salaries of other employees.

The successful applicant to this position will report to the Manager, Indigenous Engagement for Interior Health AND the Social Investment Director, Ktunaxa Nation Council. ALL APPLICATIONS WILL BE REVIEWED JOINTLY.

How will you create an impact?

In accordance with the established vision and values of the organization and of Ktunaxa Nation, the Collaborative Health Coordinator (Ktunaxa Nation) is a member of the IH Indigenous Engagement Team and is responsible and accountable for representing and advocating for the unique holistic healthcare needs of the Ktunaxa Nation and Communities, which include: ʔakisq̓nuk First Nation; Yaq̓it ʔa·knuqⱡiʾit; ʔaq̓am; and Yaqan Nuʔkiy.
The Collaborative Health Coordinator (Ktunaxa Nation) position was designed collaboratively between IH and the Ktunaxa Nation. This position is accountable to and guided by the Letter of Understanding (LOU) between IH and Ktunaxa Social Sector and reports to the Manager, Indigenous Engagement and indirectly, through shared governance of the role, to the Ktunaxa Nation Social Investment Director.
The Collaborative Health Coordinator (Ktunaxa Nation) will attend Community and Nation-based meetings to listen, understand, translate, and support teaching IH leaders and employees about Ktunaxa culture to ensure that healthcare services are delivered to the Nation community members in a culturally safe and humble manner and without prejudice and inequity. The position is responsible for advocating for the unique holistic healthcare needs of the Ktunaxa Nation and the Communities, their culture, and specific needs for systems transformation. This includes ensuring the ongoing improvement of relationships between Nation, Communities and IH.
In alignment with IH’s Occupational Health & Safety Program, employees shall adhere to all Occupational Health and Safety policies and procedures at all times and attend all required training. Employees are responsible to report any identified hazards, unsafe conditions or incidents to the manager or supervisor immediately.

What will you work on:

• Creates trusting relationships and respectfully engages with the Ktunaxa Nation and Communities to listen, learn the context, culture, and service delivery needs.
• Translates and teaches IH leaders and employees about Nation and Nation community context, cultures, and service delivery needs.
• Provides information about IH services through proactive and respectful communication in the method preferred by the Nation/Communities.
• Advocates for Nation and Communities by ensuring service design and care delivery is culturally safe, respectful, equitable and free from racism.
• Provides timely information and advice to IH employees about emerging Nation and Community healthcare needs.
• Provides recommendations and advice to ensure assigned Nation Letters of Understanding (LOU’s) are kept current and reflect evolving needs and will play a pivotal role in aligning the LOU to include the 4 Communities moving forward.
• Works with Nation and Nation community leaders to include IH staff participation in formal gatherings, workshops, conferences, health Improvement activities, etc., as appropriate, and desired by the Nation/Communities.
• Works with Nation and Community front-line staff to support in navigating issues-resolution mechanisms by bringing together the right decision-makers to ensure issues related to culturally safe, efficient, and effective care are appropriately based on community needs.
• Supports Indigenous Patient Navigator to ensure patients from Nation and Communities have access to traditional medicine, healers, and Elders as part of their care.

Qualifications

Education, Training, and Experience:

• Degree or diploma in social work, healthcare, or a relevant field (e.g., Registered Nurse or
• Licensed Practical Nurse).
• Three years of related experience working in a healthcare environment, including direct, successful experience working with Indigenous communities, preferably within healthcare and preferably within the Ktunaxa Nation.
• Demonstrated knowledge, experience, and understanding of Indigenous people and their culture.
• Knowledge of federal, provincial, territorial, regional, and Indigenous organizations mandated to provide health services.
• Preference will be given to candidates proficient in one or more Indigenous languages.
• Completion of a medical terminology course is an asset.
• OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
