Interior Health is seeking an experienced and dynamic Registered Nurse (RN) or Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) to join our Mental Health & Substance Use (MHSU) Emergency Response program in beautiful Cranbrook, BC.

* Effective April 1, 2024 the hourly rate will be $41.42 to $55.91 per hour.


About the Job

The Mental Health Crisis Response Registered Nurse/Registered Psychiatric Nurse provides:
• Nursing care to psychiatric patients, both by working independently and as a member of an interdisciplinary team
• Enhances quality of life for the patient and family
• Consults, confers, and collaborates with other health care providers
• Demonstrates continuous improvement and evidence based practice in nursing practice
• Maintains and advances own clinical competence
• Participates on designated hospital committees/teams and approved research projects as assigned

The Emergency Response Mental Health Nurse:
• Provides emergency room assessments and consultations at the request of the Emergency Room physician, general practitioner or Emergency triage nurse. Gathers a detailed history of the presenting problems, identifies the availability of family and/or friends whose intervention may be helpful. Confers with the Emergency Room Physician, general practitioner, psychiatrist on-call or the patient's attending psychiatrist to relate assessment findings and initiates treatments as ordered.
• Arranges for disposition from Emergency Department, outpatient clinic or acute units ensuring that each patient has a workable stabilization plan, this includes facilitating connections with appropriate community resources both external and internal to the Mental Health delivery system.
• Provides emergency mental health assessments at the request of the physicians to inpatients throughout all departments.

This position works in a fast-paced department and sees primarily high acute and complex patients with a variety of mental health conditions.

This is a Permanent Part Time (0.50 FTE) opportunity.

Shifts of work are rotating evening from 14:00 to 22:00 hours.

EKRH is located in Cranbrook, British Columbia where we provide hospital services to residents of the East Kootenay Health Service Area and care for over 80,000 patients a year.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an approved School of Nursing.
• Current practicing registration with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
• Formal education/training in acute mental health nursing and a minimum of one-year recent related experience in a multidisciplinary acute psychiatry setting including experience in Emergency/Crisis Intervention and rapid assessment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
