Effective April 1, 2024, the hourly wage will be $41.42 to $55.91.

About the Job:
The Registered Nurse, Oncology:
• Sets priorities, provides clinical expertise and leadership for the plan of care, plans and implements health care treatments and interventions, and assigns and delegates tasks as appropriate to other members of the healthcare team.
• Ensures the client/family unit actively participates in the development, implementation and ongoing modification of the plan of care, including the long and short-term goals.
• Establishes a therapeutic relationship through the use of effective interpersonal and interviewing techniques, ensuring client choice and autonomy in decision-making and care planning.
• Discusses and plans referral information with client/family unit and other health team members and in collaboration initiates referrals to appropriate health care/community agencies.
• Collaborates with members of the interdisciplinary team and participates in rounds and/or patient care conferences to ensure effective, consistent, and comprehensive care planning and delivery

This is a RELIEF PART-TIME (0.59 FTE) OPPORTUNITY until October 22, 2025, or the return of the incumbent.
Shifts of work will be scheduled days; Wednesday, Thursday/Friday 08:30 to 16:12, 09:15 to 16:57 hours.

About this location/unit:
RIH is a tertiary referral hospital and our Emergency department has 18 beds, 2 trauma bays, a clinical decision area, streaming area, minor treatment area, and an ambulatory care area. We treat 75,000 patient per year and our nursing staff work 12 hour shifts. We see a broad spectrum of patients in age and acuity. Due to our geographical location and outdoor activities we see a large amount of trauma. We have a High Acuity Response Team at RIH that works directly with the BC Ambulance Services to transport patients from lower acuity sites to our hospital.

5N: 5 North is a 35-bed unit. Four beds are assigned to stroke care needs and focus on stroke rehab-specific nursing care and supporting the patient through the continuum of care throughout the system. Our unit provides patient-centered care, utilizing progressive and innovative rehabilitation best practice, and we provide in-house education to our nurses to ensure everyone on the unit is able to provide the highest quality of care
5S: 5S is the Medical Inpatient floor at Royal Inland Hospital.

6N: Our 6North unit is a post-operative surgical ward for Orthopedics and Neurology patients. We see elective total joint replacements as well as orthopedic trauma and urgent/emergent orthopedic surgical patients. Our Neurology population includes patients undergoing surgical procedures as well as Traumatic Brain Injury patients and non-surgical injuries. Nurses work closely with Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy to help meet patient’s needs.

6S: 6S Unit at the Royal Inland Hospital is a very busy post-op orthopaedics and neurology surgical unit.
7N: 7N unit at RIH is a 38 bed acute general medical ward that specializes in renal and cardiac patients.

ACU: The Ambulatory Care Unit (ACU) provides a variety of services including minor surgeries (Orthopaedics, Plastic Surgery, ENT, Vascular and General Surgery), Urology, Gynecology (including Colposcopy), IV Therapy, Minor Treatments, Eye (Including laser), Endoscopy, Infectious Disease Clinic and Diabetic Foot Clinic.
Breast Health Clinic: Working closely with the Imaging department, Laboratory Services and the General Surgery team at RIH, the innovative Rae Fawcett Breast Health Clinic aims to reduce patient wait times between an initial mammogram, tissue sampling and possible breast cancer diagnosis

ER: As a General Duty registered nurse, you will work with admitted medical patients under the direction of the Physician and alongside the Emergency department team!

GT7: This is a 20-bed General Medical floor with a team nursing mix of RN’s and LPN’s. This floor works with a Hospitalist, Respirologists, Internal Medicine, Oncology, Gastroenterology and General surgeons. We work collaboratively with Transition Liaisons, an OT, a PT and Social Workers. Nurses work 12 hour days and nights as required.
GT8: The unit is 30 beds – all private patient rooms. It has four high obs surgical/eight trauma/eight stroke and ten neurosciences (post op neuro patients, or neuro diagnosis). This unit is located in the new Gaglardi Tower 8th Floor that opened July 17, 2022. The building has state of the art technology and equipment, and private rooms that are clean and spacious.

Pediatrics: The Pediatric unit at RIH provides inpatient care and is supported by 9 beds. We work with patients 17 and younger and provide all inpatient services, which keeps everyone current with best practices. Due to the size of the unit the nurses work very closely together and are great with mentoring new staff. We also assist workload on the OB side of the unit when we can and we work well together as a team.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM)
• Completion of a recognized post-basic program in Oncology nursing and two years recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
• Certification in administration of chemotherapeutic agents is required. Please upload a copy of your certificate along with your resume
