Position Summary

The Vernon Health Centre has an exciting opportunity for a Casual Medical Transcriptionist to join their team in Vernon B.C! This position works Monday to Friday from 08:00 to 16:30.

This is a Casual opportunity. Casual means there are no guaranteed hours and work requirements can vary from 0 - 37.5 hours per week. Many careers with us begin with casual employment and lead to permanent or temporary career opportunities.

***Effective April 1, 2024 new hourly wage range is $24.76-26.38

What will you work on?
In this role you will perform a variety of Transcription duties including typing, transcribing and editing dictated reports, clinical notes, forms assessments, letters, etc. using approved transcription and speech recognition software. You will be responsible for ensuring content, grammar, punctuation and format are correct by clarifying inconsistencies with the dictating physician, reviewing reference material or referring to the administrative services supervisor.
In addition you will verify and confirm report information against transcribed reports/ or Healthcare information systems and ensure client record security and confidentiality is maintained. Administrative duties will include retrieval of requisitions and distribution of transcribed reports as well as basic trouble shooting of transcription related software along with supporting general administrative office operations.
What should your application include?
-Certificate in Medical Transcription from an approved institution
-Valid 5 minute Typing test of 60 wpm taken within 24 months from an approved institution (non- supervised tests are not accepted)

Qualifications

Education, Training & Experience
Grade 12, plus graduation from an approved program in medical transcription, plus one (1) years' recent, related experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Skills and Abilities:
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
Ability to work independently and in cooperation with others.
Ability to operate related equipment.
Ability to organize and prioritize.
Ability to type 60 wpm.
Ability to use applicable computer equipment and software.
Knowledge of general office procedures.
