Position Summary
We are looking for CASUAL Operating Room Nurses to join the passionate and welcoming nursing staff at Kootenay Lake Hospital (KLH), in the beautiful community of Nelson.
Kootenay Lake Hospital’s Operating Room Department has two OR theatres functional Monday to Friday. Types of procedures include: Endoscopy, Major Obs/Gyne, Dental, Ophthalmology/Cataracts, minor Othro, and minor General Surgery. Up to nine Operating Room RNs circulate/scrub, including a float nurse plus a RN is Daycare Surgery and PAR. The hospital has a strong Obs/Gyne program supported by 24/7 on-call operating room capacity.
How Will You Create Impact?
As a member of the KLH Registered Nurse team, you will coordinate and oversee the overall care of the client and set priorities, provide clinical expertise and leadership for the plan of care, plan and implement health care treatments and interventions, and assign and delegate tasks as appropriate to other members of the healthcare team. Reporting to Surgical Team Leader you will draw upon your ability to establish therapeutic relationships through the use of effective interpersonal and interviewing techniques, ensuring client choices and autonomy in decision making and care planning.
Shifts are scheduled on a rotational basis Days, Evenings. Casual employment means work requirements can vary between Zero and 37.5 hours per week. Shift times: 07:18 to 15:00, 08:30 to 16:12, 09:30 to 17:30, 11:00 to 19:00, 07:00 to 15:00. Casual employees receive 12.6% of their straight time pay, exclusive of all premiums, in lieu of scheduled vacations and statutory holidays. Upon completion of 180 hours, there is option of purchasing medical, dental and extended health benefit plans.
How Will We Help You Grow?
Provide you with an extensive orientation to the surgical services, including general hospital orientation. A Clinical Nurse Educator is available to support practice. Weekly in-services are offered. Library Services to support patient care, education and research are available.

Qualifications
• Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
• Advanced preparation in the clinical specialty of the assigned area (perioperative nursing) and one year recent related clinical experience in the assigned practice environment on an operating room similar in size and scope to the facility or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
