Registered Nurse (RN/RPN) | Mental Health and Substance Use

Position Summary

The Mental Health Nurse provides consultation or assessment service to the Emergency Department or the Acute/Inpatient Mental Health service at the request of the Emergency Room physician, the general practitioner or the Emergency triage nurse. Initiates treatment as ordered by the attending physician and liaises with community services and agencies as indicated. Provides follow-up to all patients discharged from the Psychiatric Unit. The Registered Nurse/Registered Psychiatric Nurse provides: nursing care to psychiatric patients, both by working independently and as a member of an interdisciplinary team; enhances quality of life for the patient and family; consults, confers, and collaborates with other health care providers; demonstrates continuous improvement and evidence based practice in nursing practice; maintains and advances own clinical competence; participates on designated hospital committees/teams and approved research projects as assigned.

Shifts of work are rotating 07:30 to 19:45, 19:30 to 07:45.

Qualifications

Graduation from an approved school of nursing and two years’ recent related experience in a mental health and addictions environment; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
Current practicing registration with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM)

Effective April 1, 2023, the hourly rate for this position will be: $40.21-$57.78
