Position Summary
We are currently seeking casual Life Skills Workers to join our team at Tamarack Cottage in Cranbrook, B.C.
What will you work on?
Life Skills Workers play an important role in care. They plan, observe, monitor and report on clients’ progress and level of acceptance to services and support.
They assist clients with activities associated with daily living and work to demonstrate and model appropriate behaviors related to problem solving and decision making. Life Skills Workers provide structured support to help develop and maintain life skills related to:
• time management;
• money management, budgeting skills, how to access funds and other forms of available assistance;
• organization and interpersonal communication;
• personal care;
• household management;
• menu planning, grocery shopping, meal preparation and
• community access.
The shifts for this position are Days, Nights from 07:00 to 19:10, 19:00 to 07:10 hours
About this location/unit
Tamarack Cottage is a seven-bed tertiary care facility for clients requiring longer-term residential psychosocial rehabilitation. 5 beds are Tertiary Specialized Residential and 2 beds are Tertiary Rehabilitative. Treatment is coordinated with community mental health teams.
Located in the southeastern corner of British Columbia, Cranbrook is the business capital of the East Kootenays and the largest city in the Rocky Mountain Region. Nestled on a gentle plain with scenic mountain vistas in the distance, it is considered by many to be an ideal location to raise a family or retire. Boasting more hours of sunshine than anywhere else in the province, its residents enjoy a variety of outdoor recreational opportunities including golf, hiking and skiing. Qualifications
Education, Training and Experience:
• Grade 12
• Certificate in a field relevant to the position (i.e.: community social services, rehabilitation)
• One year recent related experience working with individuals experiencing mental health and substance use problems; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
• Valid certificates in CPR
• First Aid
• Food Safe required
• Current valid B.C. Driver’s License
