Assistant to Professional Practice Leader, Physiotherapy

Position Summary

Interior Health has an Assistant to Professional Practice Leader, Physiotherapy opening in Oliver, B.C.

This is a permanent, full time, Monday to Friday position that offers 0.70 FTE of clinical physiotherapy acute care duties within the South Okanagan General Hospital, and 0.30 FTE of operational duties as they relate to budget, workload, planning, labour relations and personnel.

Effective April 2023 hourly rates of pay: $47.72 to $59.22 per hour.

The Assistant to Professional Practice Leader span of control includes the South Okanagan General Hospital, Outpatients, Oliver Home Health Services and Long-Term Care. Supervises Rehabilitation Assistants and Physiotherapists.

This positions acts as a support to the Professional Practice Leader by:
• Providing physiotherapy to patients/clients/residents as a part of the interdisciplinary team;
• Ensuring efficiency and quality in the provision of Allied Health Services;
• Acting as a clinical resource to Physiotherapists;
• Coordinating appropriate staffing levels by preparing staff work schedules and vacation coverage;
• Contributing to the selection and hiring process; completing performance evaluations for assigned staff and undertaking disciplinary action as required;
• Coordinating orientation and ongoing training of department staff;
• Assuming responsibility for overall supervision of the department in the absence of the Professional Practice Leader;
• Monitoring and reporting on expenditures and investigating and justifying variances;
• Coordinating student placements for therapists and rehabilitation assistants in collaboration with outside learning institutions; and
• Monitoring routine and formalized maintenance programs for all departmental equipment. Maintaining an adequate inventory of equipment and supplies by monitoring stock levels.

Professional physiotherapy practice is supported at multiple levels and general practice as part of a group led by a Physiotherapy Professional Practice leader, with operational oversight from an Allied Health Manager. All Physiotherapy clinicians are also enjoined to actively participate in a “Community of Practice” (Physio Practice Council) established within the Health Authority, connecting Physios from other sites to discuss practical practice concerns and doubly serve as a venue for group mentoring and guidance. Specialty Education courses sponsored periodically by the health authority are offered to clinicians to help enhance effective, evidence-based practice approaches. Interior Health staff education opportunities are reimbursed per year based on an annual limit (and subject to manager approval). Qualifications

• Current full registration with the College of Physical Therapists of BC (CPTBC).
• Four (4) years recent, related experience with experience in a variety of physiotherapy services including two (2) years of clinical and supervisory/management experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• Valid BC Driver’s License.
