Combined Laboratory / X-Ray Technologist

Position Summary

The Radiology team at South Okanagan General Hospital in Oliver, B.C. is looking for a Permanent Part Time 0.50 FTE Combined Lab/X-Ray Technologist to join their team!

The Combined Laboratory/X-Ray Technologist performs a variety of route laboratory, x-ray and ECG procedures in accordance with departmental policies, procedures and standards as defined by respective service and accrediting bodies. Performs routine and preventative maintenance of equipment and trouble shoots equipment problems as required.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities Include:
1. Receives patients, completes requisitions, and provides basic patient care when collecting specimens or when carrying out general routine procedures in accordance with department policies, procedures and professional practice standards.

2. Explains procedures and monitors patient care by observing and responding in accordance with established policies and procedures.

3. Carries out established laboratory test procedures in specified areas as assigned.

4. Performs general imaging procedures in accordance with standards of professional practice and established department procedures and protocols.

5. Checks results and verifies images. Performs post-processing quantitative analysis, including completion of all requisitions and exam related forms, archiving images, recording results.

6. Enters data related to examinations into the Picture Archive and Communication System (PACS).

7. Operates general and routine cardiac, radiological and laboratory equipment within the scope of professional practice in the areas of service.

8. Performs all routine quality control testing.

9. Participates in orientation and in-service education for departmental staff and demonstrates personal initiative in maintaining professional currency and skills by participating in relevant educational activities as required.

10. Provides feedback and input into departmental policies and procedures as requested.

11. Participates in quality improvement by conducting audits, completing reports, monitoring clinical indicators and surveys, providing feedback and following up on risk factors and making recommendations for improvements.

12. Ensures a safe working environment by observing universal precautions and infection control procedures, removing hazards, reporting faulty equipment.

13. Maintains designated work area by checking and cleaning equipment, setting up examination trays for specific procedures. Receives and stocks supplies and identifies depleted stock and malfunctioning equipment requiring repair in accordance with established policies and procedures.

This Rotation includes on-call shifts. The shift types for this position are days and evenings with the shift times being between 07:00 to 15:00 or 14:00 to 22:00.

Qualifications

Graduation from an approved Combined Laboratory X-Ray Technician program.

Eligible for registration with a provincial licensing body.

One year of general experience in laboratory and diagnostic imaging fields or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
