Rehabilitation Assistant | Occupational Therapy

Position Summary

Casual Rehabilitation (Rehab) Assistants are needed for available work within the Central Okanagan portfolio of Acute Care and Long-Term Care. We are seeking reliable and motivated Rehab Assistants to join our cohesive Occupational Therapy Team.

Rehab Assistants are intrical member of the rehabilitation team; the eyes and ears of the rehab team. Your input is very valuable to the team in determining adjustments needed for rehab programming or client readiness to move forward. You are encouraged to work a top of scope.

Occupational Therapy Acute Care
Rehab Assistants engage patients with regular therapeutic interventions. Areas of work: post-op surgical care, general medical, inpatient rehab, critical care, post-neuro events (CVA, TBI), inpatient psychiatry, Therapeutic Support Surfaces program. Practicing valued activities of daily living (i.e. dressing, toileting, feeding, functional transfers) with patients and cognitive rehabilitation, such as memory games, newspaper therapy. You assisting with splinting.

Long-Term Care
Rehab Assistants engage patients with regular therapeutic interventions. Practice using equipment to help people stay independent. For example wheel chairs, walkers. Conduct exercise and walking programs, and therapeutic group work. You monitor and manage equipment inventory/stock, use and the availability of specialty products for required needs. You provide education to staff with a range of backgrounds in Safe Patient Handling.

Shifts will be available on a short-notice on-call bases and/or blocks of shifts pre-scheduled to relieve leaves of absences. Casual employment means work requirements can vary between Zero and 37.5 hours per week. Receive 13% of straight time pay, exclusive of all premiums, in lieu of scheduled vacations and statutory holidays. Upon completion of 180 hours, there is option of purchasing medical, dental and extended health benefit plans. Opportunity to apply internally for regular openings as they become available.

Effective April 1, 2023, hourly rate of pay is $30.06 per hour.

Qualifications

• Completion of a recognized Rehabilitation Assistant Program, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• Valid Driver’s License required.
