Position Summary
We are presently seeking a casual Recreation Therapist to join our Recreation team in Kelowna. This position will provide relief for Cottonwoods, Brookhaven, Three Links Manor and David Lloyd Jones.
As the Recreation Therapist, you will provide recreation and leisure programs/activities one on one and in groups to clients. This position assesses clients' recreation and leisure needs, develops and coordinates the delivery of therapeutic recreation plans and evaluates outcomes/objectives. The duties include performing recreation/leisure assessments to create therapeutic recreation programs that benefit the clients’ health, functional status, personal development and quality of life. This position is responsible for documenting behavioural and functional observations and developing individualized therapeutic recreation plans in collaboration with others. You will be required to monitor clients' progress, revisit goals, identify accomplishments and set/revise time lines to ensure completion of objectives. The duties include collaborating with Occupational/ Rehabilitation staff, other health care professionals, social and recreational agencies/groups in the resolution of client program issues.
As a member of a multidisciplinary team, you will contribute to the organization and delivery of Recreation Therapy services, and participate in designated quality assurance initiatives, meetings, research and education, as required. The responsibilities include providing input to the Manager by participating in the development of laboratory guidelines and procedures; research and continuous quality improvement initiatives for the department.
Casual employment means work requirements can vary between 0 and 37.5 hours per week with day shift hours of 08:00 to 16:00. Once hired into a casual role, employees are eligible to apply for internal postings including permanent part time or full time positions. Qualifications
• Graduation from a recognized diploma or degree program in Recreational Therapy plus two years recent related experience.
• Eligible for professional membership with the B.C. Therapeutic Recreation Association (BCTRA).
• Current valid BC driver’s license
