Respiratory Therapist | Outpatient Services

Position Summary

Royal Inland Hospital (RIH) is seeking to expand its Respiratory Team and is inviting applications from Respiratory Therapists (RTs) interested in Casual employment.

Casual employment means work requirements can vary between Zero and 37.5 hours per week. Casual RTs can work up to full time hours. There is no shortage of work if you are willing to pick up short call hours. Shifts will include a mix of weekdays, weekends, days, and nights. Some shifts will be pre booked and some will be short notice.

What Will You Work On?
This is an outpatient service that includes Pulmonary Function testing, walk testing, overnight oximetry testing, and DAP accreditation support. It is a position, which backfills vacation and relief coverage to a team of three Respiratory Therapists, and requires minimum 10 shifts per year. Additional Casual work in Acute Care and High Acuity Response Team is available.

In this role the Respiratory Therapist assesses and prepares clients for treatment or therapy by reviewing and clarifying physician's requests, obtaining various diagnostic test results and interviewing client/family in order to gather and compile pertinent information for use in planning client care, and plan client treatment using current technologies and therapies and ensures diagnostic/therapeutic procedures are consistent and correct for the client's condition.

How Will We Help You Grow?
A robust orientation is provided by the RT Educator for several days before being teamed up with a buddy for orientation shifts. New employees will work and get full orientation to Outpatient Services, ICU, ER and wards initially, before moving on to Bronchoscopy orientation. High Acuity Response Team orientation is reserved for RT’s with a minimum of 2 years experience, and covers several extra courses including ACLS, MHSU, NRP/PALS, ITLS and an advanced airway course.

Continuing competencies are evaluated at regular intervals. Education for the team happens daily and as required by the PPL, APPL, and educators.

Qualifications

• Graduation from a recognized Respiratory Therapy program.
• Current certification with the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists (CSRT) and eligible for registration with the British Columbia Society of Respiratory Therapists (BCSRT) and CSRT.
• Recent acute/critical care experience.
• Current valid BC Driver’s License.
