Medical Lab Technologist

Position Summary

The South Okanagan General Hospital in Oliver, B.C. is seeking a reliable and flexible Medical Lab Technologist (MLT), to join their welcoming team. This is a permanent full-time opportunity. Days of work are rotating and shift times are days and evenings with participation in out-of-hours and overnight on-call required.

What will you work on

This is a generalist Lab position and offers interesting and varied work within all areas of Core Lab including hematology, chemistry and blood bank.

MLTs work in team-based environments to perform a variety of routine and/or complex tests utilizing manual procedures and automated instruments. MLTs are also responsible for functions such as: receiving specimens, entering data into the Laboratory Information System (LIS), validating and reporting test results, maintaining instruments and preparing solutions and control agents. Participates in departmental training programs in individual or all sections of the with a view to learning new/existing tests and procedures for use in the Laboratory.

SOGH is an active, rural hospital serving the communities of Oliver, Osoyoos, and surrounding areas that sees an average of 16,000 emergency visits per year. There are 7 Emergency beds and 18 acute care beds which regularly operate at 100% capacity. This busy hospital is co-located with an 80 bed long-term care facility and also offers outpatient Lab services.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an approved Medical Laboratory Science Program
• Current certification with the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) and eligible for membership with the BC Society of Laboratory Sciences (BCSLS) and/or CSMLS
• One (1) year recent related experience
