The VJH Critcal Care Unit current consists of 10 beds with room for expansion to 16 beds. The new space offers a large, bright working area with wide halls, and lots of storage areas with windows surrounding the whole unit. The new unit was designed to focus on the family unit as a whole being and the new ICU has three family areas; a waiting room, a quiet room and a family overnight room, the natural light and the private rooms make for a positive experience for patients and family members. Our new decentralized model moves the nurse and services right to the patients bedside in satellite stations and provides access by all users, in a quiet, soothing experience that is reassuring to patients, families, and visitors. The decentralized room provides optimal patient privacy and enhances private family interactions with patient, nurse and physician and other allied team members such as social workers, clerical staff, physiotherapists, dieticians and respiratory therapists.

Qualifications
Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration with the
British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
Advanced preparation in the clinical specialty of the assigned area as required by the position:
• Critical Care – Advanced preparation in a critical care clinical specialty or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) within 3 years.
