Registered Nurse (RN/RPN) | Mental Health and Substance Use

Position Summary

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse to join our Mental Health & Substance Use (MHSU) Opioid Agonist Treatment team at the Community Health Services Centre in Kelowna.

The Opioid Agonist Treatment nurse at KGH will provide initial intake and assessment for clients interested in the Opiate Agonist program. Working in a system of care, the RN/RPN will work with physician assistance and community services to ensure therapy initiation, support and streamlined transition and continuity of care. In addition this position will be responsible for coordinating the education and dispensing of naloxone kits to clients. Experience in substance use is preferred and an understanding of evidence based practice for opioid dependence is required. We are looking for a nurse who is flexible and well organized, with strong assessment and communication skills.

Shifts types are days, with shift times from 09:00 to 17:00.

This is a Casual opportunity. Casual means there are no guaranteed hours and work requirements may vary from 0 - 37.5 hours per week. Casual employment includes: short-notice, on-call availability; workload coverage during a temporary absence; and/or providing relief coverage in a specific position. Education, Training and Experience:

Graduation from an approved school of nursing.

Two years’ recent related MHSU experience in the assigned clinical area(s) (such as Adult Short Term Assessment and Treatment (ASTAT), Adult Community Support Services (ACSS), Urgent Response, Elderly Services, Alcohol & Drug, Developmental Disability Mental Health Services (DDMHS), etc.) or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Current practicing registration with the British Columbia College of Nursing Professionals (BCCNP).

Current valid B.C. driver’s license.

**Experience in substance use and an understanding of evidence based practice for opioid dependence is an asset.
