Registered Nurse | Perianesthesia Training Opportunities

Position Summary

East Kootenay Regional Hospital in Cranbrook has a Registered Nurse Employee Education Opportunity for the Perianesthesia Education Program (PEP).

If you are an experienced registered nurse and would like to move into Perianesthesia nursing but do not have formal education, we would love to consider you for paid in-house Perianesthesia training. This training would require an 18-month return of service commitment.

The PEP uses a standardized, evidence informed on-line curriculum offered by Elsevier, called ASPAN: Mosby’s Orientation to Perianesthesia Nursing (MOPAN) curriculum and American Association of Critical Care Nurses Essentials of Critical Care Orientation (ECCO). Learners will complete Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) during their training.
* Application Pre-requisite Heart & Stroke Basic Life Support within one year and competency in electrocardiogram interpretation required

PEP has three (3) program components to be completed:
*Prerequisite Online Theory Modules (84 hours)
• Facilitated Lab/Simulation (75 hours)
• Clinical Practicum Shifts/Consolidated Learning (313 hours) of 225-hours in PACU; 88-hours in ICU
*Must be completed prior to commencement of Education Opportunity (unpaid study hours)

Shifts of work are rotating, with shift times of 07:00-19:00 and 19:00-07:00.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration with the British Columbia College of Nursing Professionals (BCCNM).
