Position Summary

Interior Health is looking for a permanent full time Lead Data Architect to join our Data Management department team. The location for this position is flexible within the province of B.C.

What will you work on?

The Lead Data Architect manages a team of technical staff for the purpose of development, design, building, monitoring, maintenance and support of assigned data products. The Lead Data Architect will work in conjunction with the Manager of Data Platforms and Director of Data Management to ensure design, changes and support of data projects are in line with the overarching vision and management of the data estate to support Interior Health business requirements.

The Lead Data Architect collaborates with data stakeholders fostering relationships and representing Data Management. Architects and leads the continual improvement of assigned data products including designing solutions, services, systems, and infrastructure managing security, performance, quality, availability, and cost to meet changing business needs. Stays current with technical trends and best practices to maintain and mentor data and analytics expertise.


1. Responsible for recruitment, performance management, attendance management, and discipline measures for direct reports as well as evaluating employee strengths and determining related training and orientation requirements.

2. Leads, inspires, and influences your team to embrace modern data engineering practices that enable them to frequently release high-quality and performant service that operate at enterprise scale.

3. Builds and maintains an intricate knowledge of Data and Analytical infrastructures, services, and roadmaps.

4. Fosters collaborative relationships with technology, privacy, security, analytics, reporting, and business departments.

5. Researches and tests modern technology, collaborating with vendors to understand roadmaps in particularly how they relate, affect, and enable IH’s technology and business roadmaps.

6. Acts as an expert consultant for escalation, requirements gathering, and representation of Data Management in groups, initiatives, and projects.

7. Partners with infrastructure and development departments to architect, build, update, and grow the foundations, standards, and services for Digital Health.

8. Partners with stakeholders to architect, build, update, and grow data solutions including transactional, reporting, integration, analysis, security solutions for both on-premises and cloud technology platforms.

9. Supports the tracing, auditing, and reporting of data and data solutions throughout their lifecycles.

10. Leads continual service improvements including updating knowledge base articles, procedures, processes, standards, and refactoring of packages and scripts.

11. Participates in data architect and associated communities sharing knowledge and guidance to peers and colleagues helping increase data and analytics competencies for the organization.

12. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education, Training, and Experience:

• A Masters’ degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical discipline or equivalent is required.
• Minimum eight (8) years of industry experience in Software Development, Data Engineering, Business Intelligence, Data Science, or related field with a track record of manipulating, processing, and extracting value from large datasets.
• Implementing Source controls best practices.
• Implementing code review and cross training best practices.
• SQL Services support and troubleshooting including transact-SQL, integration, and analysis.
• Azure data services and supporting software including Data Bricks, Data Lakes, Synapse, Purview, and Power BI.
• Familiarity with the underlying virtual server operating systems, networks, active directory, command line, and automation.
• Cloud or related technical certifications are an asset.
• Course work in a health-related area or experience working in the healthcare field is an asset.

• Business Analysis: find business needs and figure out solutions to business problems.
• Information Analysis and Insight Generation: understand the meaning of structured and unstructured business information and support generating insight from it.
• Adhere to and support the development of policies, guidelines, procedures for information usage and dissemination.
• Maintain connections with honest and trustworthy collaborations over a range of audiences and channels.
• Start new work and carry-on job duties without direct supervision.
• Maintain agility, resiliency, and intellectual rigor in a dynamic fast-paced environment.
• Communication, conflict, and coaching fundamentals.
• Planning, organizing, budgeting, and negotiation fundamentals.
• General knowledge of current healthcare issues and health information standards.
• Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.

Starting salary is approximately from 92K to 100K and will be based on education, training and experience.
