Sparwood Health Centre has a Respiratory Therapist permanent, full time opening combining a Community Care and a Primary Care focus.

Community Care | The Community Respiratory Therapist provides comprehensive care for both adult and pediatric patients that will build proficiency in conducting patient assessments, home visits, and environment evaluations to ensure optimal respiratory health. Develop your skills in assisting with care planning, discharge planning, and providing ongoing support to respiratory patients and their families. Bring your skills and commitment to assessing patients for appropriate home oxygen therapy and respiratory equipment, ensuring personalized and effective respiratory care. Perform various procedures including arterial blood gas sampling, oximetry, and portable lung function testing. Lend your expertise to conducting sleep disordered breathing screenings and facilitating Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) therapy trials. Deliver smoking cessation programs to patients, healthcare staff, and community groups, with a focus on individualized counseling.

Primary Care | The Primary Care Respiratory Therapist partners with family physicians, primary care providers, and allied healthcare professionals to deliver comprehensive care tailored to the unique needs of the local community. The Respiratory Therapist adapts to the holistic, person-centered approach of the Primary Care Team structure, with a commitment to ensuring culturally safe and responsive care. Build on proficiency in working within optimized scopes of practice to maximize efficiency and efficacy. Additionally, a Respiratory Therapist is required to have flexibility to transition over time to providing care in private family physician clinics and conducting home visits, further extending accessibility and continuity of care for patients.

Qualifications

• Graduation from a recognized program in Respiratory Therapy and two years’ recent and relevant experience in pulmonary rehabilitation, asthma education, respiratory home care, home ventilation, home oxygen, and sleep disordered breathing screening, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• Current certification with the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists (CSRT) and eligible for registration with the British Columbia Society of Respiratory Therapists (BCSRT) and CSRT.
• Current valid driver’s license.
